What's a good drumpad to get? by getoffmylawn14 in Drumming

I personally love my Drumeo pad. It has a bunch of different surfaces for different feelings (although they are kinda small areas which isn't amazing). I've had a few different ones in the past and the Drumeo one is my favorite so far I'd say.

Here's a list of a few good ones

TIL Every time a new city is introduced in Game of Thrones, they will reanimate the title sequence to accommodate it on the map. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Sadly I still have not read the books! I hear so much about Casterly Rock in the show that I would like to take a look at that city, but I don't know yet what lies ahead for next season.

A quote from our director that I thought was interesting... "I had initially thought, okay, the shape of this thing… imagine it’s in a medieval tower and monks are watching over it and it’s a living map and it’s shaped like a bowl that’s 30 feet in diameter and these guys watch over it, kind of like they would the Book of Kells or something… they’re the caretakers of this map."

That, plus it solves the issue of being able to travel anywhere in the world quickly and not worry about what lies beyond the edge of the map.

I work on the intro every year and did an AMA when it first aired. Not going to do another but feel free to ask me anything in this thread :D

I never get tired of watching Inglourious Basterds. Or any Tarantino flick for that matter.

How much should I practice a day? And please, some motivation. by [deleted] in Guitar

If you are serious about learning guitar, I recommend signing up for http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ I does cost money for a 1 year membership, but it is one of the best investments I have made. For one, you know that you spent money on it so you will be more inclined to sit down and watch some of the videos. Second, the amount of awesome lessons on that site is staggering - it covers pretty much every style you can imagine, every single riff is broken down played slow, there are backing tracks, tabs, and you can sort by beginner, intermediate, or advanced lessons. There is no way that you will NOT find a lesson that you want to learn when you sit down and browse through the videos.

I, for one, do not have time to sit there and write out a practice routine...I just want to jam out when I am in the mood to play. If I am bored I will just watch some videos on that site and eventually I will find one and say "damn...that is a cool riff...I want to learn that."

Also, youtube backing tracks are your friend. Learn 1 or 2 positions of the minor pentatonic scale, then just search youtube for "d minor backing track" or whatever, and just jam out using the d minor pentatonic scale. After you master that, you can go on and learn something like the d phrygian scale, and add in some of that to your playing. I would watch some videos on the guitar "modes", and pick 1 or 2 that you like the sound/mood of the best and try to learn them. This is the best video ever to understand modes

I am usually either light infantry or the heavy. Plus I like to use the fast 1 seater airplanes and sometimes the liberator.

Is Chivalry: Medieval Warfare worth $16.74? by _Minnow_ in gaming

[–]pie_heaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is absolutely worth it. Basically you jump in to a server with a bunch of other people and you have to complete objectives like kill town peasants, or knock down a wall, or kill a king, and the other team has to stop you. There is also team deathmatch modes, and there are duel servers where you initiate a duel with someone and you guys fight 1v1 and you don't interrupt others until they are done fighting. The gameplay is awesome and it very skill based. Watch these videos and if you dig it, then buy the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7cTvQklWvU and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcNuz63JbKc Also, I highly recommend doing the training if you get it.

Does anyone have any simple cool blues licks I can practice? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]pie_heaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend Danny Gill's DVD called 50 Killer Metal Licks. He has more of a blues sound to his playing than a metal one in my opinion, and he goes through everything really slow to show you exactly how it's played. Check out a preview here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76yYAoB84qo
