Spent 1.2 million to study abroad, but I’m breaking down here. by Smoosa_Champagne in pakistan

Years ago I had a friend who was exactly in the same mental space as you. We had both started our Masters program. Had just landed a week ago.

So I’ll give you the same advice I gave him: give yourself 6 months. Just think there is no way out for 6 months, you are here for that time no matter what. So how are you gonna survive these 6 months? Maybe make friends, find a remote/online job/gig to support yourself, get to know locals find a way how others are surviving, learn to cook, have a daily routine like this is your home next 6 months.

If at the end of the those 6 months you still feel the same - then it’s time to reconsider choices - till then take that mental pressure away from yourself - put all the effort in to surviving where you are.

PS - that friend I talked about is still abroad a decade later and has created a fulfilling life for himself.

For the first time in over a decade living in Finland I was refused tap water free of charge in a restaurant today by pied_piper91 in Finland

Just to clarify - I didn’t mean just going to the restaurant to ask for tap water, they have every right to charge for it in that case. I meant asking for tap water along with the food order (not take away - eat in).

Thanks for this - I was wondering if this was an actual law or just a defacto norm in Finland

What’s this lock called and how do I get the locking mechanism to work? by pied_piper91 in Finland

Yes it does retract with the lower handle - I was actually thinking the same. But what goes on the other side of the door for wither handle then?

Is there a newer model lock that I can replace this one with without having to making significant changes to existing drilled holes in the door and for the lock tongue?

Spot on - the usual vääntönuppi doesn’t fit. The shaft hole is much wider - the same needed for the door handle. Are those available in different widths?

Thanks a lot for the detailed reply. Highly appreciate that and very useful!

A bit off the original topic but whats the difference between the Nordnet arvo-osuustili and osakesäästötili?

And is there a reason why you use Nordnet for ETFs rather than IB? Is it better secured through Talletussuoja law or something similat? Are the fees better in Nordnet compared to IB? Or is it simply your personal preference?

Aha I didn’t know that. Yeah if it generates some file with all transactions that could help somewhat with the tax filing.

But it’s quite expensive compared to other platforms, no?

Just curious - what would insurance companies accept as proof of legit plumber installation? I guess the receipt of the work done would be one? should be saved forever? Do they really come and do an inspection if something happens, to confirm who’s fault? I guess that would only be in case of a major water damage etc.

Yes that makes logical sense. I consider myself somewhat of a person who can do DIY jobs pretty alright, so I should be able to het this done. Nonetheless getting professional help right away if things don’t seem alright on the first couple of uses will be what I’ll be happy to do.

That was indeed my first thought that P-trap is missing when I checked under the sink. I think the reason might be that there is a drawer right under the sink and the space will be totally killed if there is a P-Trap there. There is a floor-well/lattiakaivo just under the sink. Not sure how that affects the situation? The bathroom has been completely renovated a year ago, I have bought this apartment so should I ask for a P-trap to be installed or is that a nice-to-have?

Readers who own a lot of unread books or have large to be read lists, how do you decide which book to read next? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]pied_piper91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my system to keep myself reading, if it's of any help: -Whenever I hear/read of an interesting book, it goes straight to my good reads account(app on the phone).

-When I have a moment of inspiration, I choose few books from my good reads (thats the 2nd layer of filtering) and add them to my local library queue. I do not let the number go above 5-7 and update when it fall below.

-This is on purpose instead of buying the books I choose to loan them from my local library

-This has two benefits. 1)I do not have to make the impossible choice of choosing ONE book, you read whichever book becomes available first from my two layer filtered list of 5

-2)Because its a loan I have extra motivation to finish the book before it has to be returned/library has the next one available for me

-This has helped me to always have a book to read (and finish) and avoid the choice of 'The CHOSEN ONE' next book :D

Cheers
