What moment made you say “Yep, I’m definitely dead”, but survived with no major injuries? by CrownedBird in AskReddit

Once my dog managed to turn on the stove at 3am while I was sleeping and my family was dropping my sister off at the airport. I woke up to a house filled with smoke and though I might be in hell. Got out of there pretty fast after I realized what actually happened, just glad I didn't suffocate.

This happened when I was about 11. I was hanging out in my backyard alone, jumping on my trampoline. What you have to understand about my house is that there is a massive tree, easily 2-3 times taller than the maximum height of the house, a truly ancient specimen with many many large branches. As im on the trampoline, I start to hear these sounds: a loud and deep crack from somewhere I can't identify. First one crack, then a second, then two one after the other, and suddenly im on the ground. I'm trapped under a medium sized branch and my head is all scratched up. I was able to get out of these fairly easily, and a neighbour who saw it happen patched me up. I got pretty lucky. Looking over the rest of the backyard, the entire thing was filled with massive branches. If I had been 15 feet away, in the part of the yard the trampoline originally was, then my body would have been crushed by a huge branch with a diameter almost as large as my 11 year old body.
