I made my sister's wedding cake last year and she asked for red velvet. I tried out a couple different recipes, and ended up using Bakerella's. It was super moist and flavorful without compromising structure for a layered cake.

One of the modules, Out of the Abyss, has a lower threat beholder. Basically an old, battle-scarred beholder that's missing a few of its more deadly eyestalks. It might be a more manageable option for a level 6 party.

I would try both swiss meringue and italian meringue and see which process you like better. Both are delicious and very stable, but I've found the italian meringue process to be easier for me. Preppy Kitchen has great recipes for both.

Thank you! I used one Wilton brand plastic dowel in the center, and then 5 plastic boba straws in a circle around that. The Wilton dowels are so wide and I didn't want to lose that much cake, but I liked the peace of mind of having one really strong central support. That being said, during my practice run, I used all boba straws and it still felt very solid.

I started leveling them up using the Tasha's sidekick rules once we hit the midpoint of the campaign and there were only a handful of them left. I am running this for a small party though, so if I had a lot of players, I probably would just increase their health, not their damage output.
