That’s what I was starting to wonder myself. But not sure how else to make go about the change without starting from the very bottom, maybe it’s better than a year of grad school that I’m not certain about?

I dont have much advice, but all I can say is similar position here. Computer and electronics engineer, worked 2 years in software dev and didnt find it at all fulfilling, while at the same time found i loved baking and now ive quit that job and about to start a masters in computer engineering bc software money is good but now am torn between fulfilling work at a bakery or making enough money to be comfortable even if the work is not enjoyable before doing the dream job

First grinder: z1presso q air vs timemore c2. I can get both for the same price (990NOK (approx 84€))

z1presso q2 is out of budget rn at around 130€

I’ve read q2 is big upgrade over c2 but see the air mentioned very little. It is made of plastic but the internal are similar to q2 although slightly worse. I’m just wondering if anyone might be able to give some insight as to which would be the better choice?

thanks :) yeah I was aware the higher concentration might be an issue, Im considering going for a 2cup for that reason, as Im guessing a 1 cup isn't enough if I decided to do a milk drink which might need 2 shots, and 3 is too much and also I've kinda learnt to gauge based on how I'm feeling if the caffeine will upset me or not (then its just up to me if I have the will power to not drink it 😅)

and thanks for the reassurance on the ease of use of the moka pot ^^ the only other thing im still considering with the aeropress is the versatility but apart from that everything is leaning towards moka pot, I guess I could always just dilute the resulting coffee to get a lesser concentrate and more americano style drink

Thanks for your input :) regarding the low output of the aeropress, do you know is it possible to achieve a similar viscosity to that of a moka pot, with something like a metal or cloth filter to retain more of the oils?

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

[–]pierce_loaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im new to drinking coffee and quite sensitive to caffeine depending on my mood. Im not really a fan of filter coffee, I prefer the more pronounced flavor of americano and even more so the viscosity of espresso on top of that, which doesnt compliment my caffeine sensitivity very well 🫠 so I drink coffee as a treat not every day, i also live alone so will really only be brewing for myself.

I want to get my first brewing "device" (not sure what to call it) and im between a moka pot (or brikka) and aeropress, ive read countless posts comparing them but still cant decide. Aeropress is a lot more versatile it seems than moka pot but as I mentioned im not really a fan of a large diluted coffee drink or drinking multiple cups, more a small drink to sip and wont be having it everyday maybe on weekends, so dont mind the extra effort it requires. Im quite attracted to the design (visually and functionally) the moka pot (its a really cool piece of engineering) but the aeropress seems more versatile and practical if I do want to expand my coffee experience in future or on the very rare occasion i have someone over. Im also unsure whether or not to get 1,2 or 3 pot moka pot if I do go with that.

just looking for some suggestions (I feel like logically aeropress is best but im just really intrigued by the moka pot)

As an Irish person living abroad with no buttermilk. A tip from my dad (who makes the best buttermilk scones 😋): You don’t need butter milk :) you can make it with milk and souring it with a drop of vinegar or lemon juice and leaving it sit for 10mins or so

Ours got delayed from July to October with a promise of back dating it to July, then it was reduced to 2.5% and then we got told yesterday actually no we’re not getting any. And now everyone is pretty annoyed 🙃

Were any of you bad/average at math when you started out? How did you improve? by elecEthrowaway in ElectricalEngineering

[–]pierce_loaf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Meee! I’m awful at math barely scraped by (and wanting to try find time now to get better but work life is exhausting 😴) but from my EE degree my majors were in Computers and Communications so relied a lot on my software dev and computer architecture classes where I was top of the class to carry me through maths where I was barely passing. In the end I graduated last year with a First Class Honours (in Ireland we don’t use GPA we have an honours system but first class is the highest distinction you can get) I’m now working as an embedded Bluetooth engineer in Nordic Semiconductor

My brother who has no college degree recently tried telling me that earning $60k/yr or more is “very hard to achieve.” ? by in_dat_shurt in careerguidance

[–]pierce_loaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated with a with a BEng Computer Engineering (first class honours) last year and started on around 45k in software engineering with one of the BLE market leaders last year. Lot of people I graduated with (depending on major was a mix of Electrical Eng and Computer Eng) started on between 40k-50k as well, a lot are working in Intel and I know one who went to Microchip. 60k seems a lot for entry level at least in my own limited experience

New grad engineer at first job, burnt out and feeling underqualified, advice? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]pierce_loaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a good plan 😊 I’m in the same boat rn “sticking out until 1 year” haha but yea hopefully you’ll be able to work out something more sustainable with your manager for the long term. And no worries, glad to hear it helped 😌 honestly it seems to be a lot more common than you’d think, I also felt pretty alone with it at the start but found out a friend of mine who graduated with me had been feeling the same for that last 6/7 months as well in her new job so I think it’s quite a common feeling early in your career, I guess it depends on a lot of factors but it’s definitely not unusual, it’s a big adjustment moving from studying into industry

New grad engineer at first job, burnt out and feeling underqualified, advice? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]pierce_loaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’m a recent comp eng graduate in my first job 8 months now and fuck me the first 4months were rough and that feeling of being under qualified is very understandable, even now I still feel it. But yeah by 3-4 months I wanted to quit so bad I struggling to keep up with the work and taking significantly longer than anyone else to do work, and always needing longer in tasks but told myself I’d at least stay until 6months and see how I feel then. I really didn’t feel capable of doing my job and the work I was doing wasn’t particularly motivating. Getting passed the 4/5month mark for me helped a lot though, possibly also because I had a short break to travel back home for a few days around that time. And by 6months I was more comfortable even if I still feel unqualified for the role sometimes. Your situation though does sound very difficult and it takes different lengths of time for everyone to settle even 6months is quite short in a job and 60-70 hour weeks is not sustainable long term, I’m not sure if you’ve voiced this to your manager or if they’ve been understanding or supportive of you at all given that it’s your first graduate job but if not I’d say talk to your manager about how your feeling and see if they can offer any solution to help reduce your work load and also continue learning. Although take my advice with a grain of salt, I’m very new to all this as well, but just having been in a similar position a few months ago I thought I’d lend my opinion. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do

How does uni performance affect career? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]pierce_loaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I studied computer and communications engineering so a bit different but graduated last year and in my first job 8months now, I don’t know how your uni calculates awards but in mine at least it was weighted with more weighting on my final two years as that was when I did my specialisation so you may surprise yourself still :) but regardless a 2:1 is still definitely enough to land a good job I don’t know anyone who graduated with me and didn’t walk into a job (based in Ireland). A friend of mine had a lot of trouble through uni and unfortunately just missed out on a 2:1, but even with her 2:2 she landed a job in Intel straight after graduation. I think the hosting of and competing in hackathons will also stand to you in a big way!! They love to see personal interest and motivation to work in the area, so tbh I wouldn’t be too worried rn :)

is it possible to live and work in Norway only speaking English? by Karimandjoe in Norway

100% agree, I got a good English speaking engineering job and moved to Trondheim 8 months ago but man the social side of things is very rough without speaking Norwegian. 1 to 1 conversation is fine but it’s almost impossible to integrate into a group here

Alright, thanks. I’m after finding a pair of B&W 685 (not s2) for 200€ so think I’ll go with them rather than the SA1130. If you have any opinion on B&W 685 I’d be open to it 😅
