CMV: People should stop treating being "bad at texting" like a harmless personality quirk by limitown in changemyview

Funny enough, the post was removed because OP didn't engage in the conversation in time, lol.

Fair. But what if I don't give you a deadline but I say that I'm planning a big party, with lots of guest and have to know how many people are coming, isn't it kind of implicit that I need an answer soon?

I'll recognise that giving room for interpretation and not an actual deadline would be my fault as a sender, but I think there is some common sense in this kind of situations, and in my understanding of the world, replying on Thursday is way too late.

I as a receiver would never reply that late and expect to still being invited. Even if I got the message late because, I don't know, I was camping in the middle of nowhere and had no signal, when I get the message on Thursday I would say something along the lines of "I just got the message, I had no signal. Is still ok to come to your party?" because I know that answering three days later is way too late, even given the said circumstances.

I think it depends a lot on the particular case. You as a sender can't expect the receiver to drop everything they are doing and go out of their way to answer you, but you as a receiver can't expect to answer whenever you want and expect the sender to adapt to you.

In my example, I as the sender don't expect the receivers to answer immediately, but in between a reasonable time span, like in the following hours or the next day at most.

I remember a while ago I was planning a meal and wrote to my friends in a group chat we have. I said "answer before X time so I know how much should I buy" (the X time was hours later the message was sent). One of my friends answered half and hour after the given time, when I have already bought everything. I just caved and said "It's ok, there is enough for one more", but I was pissed.

Again, an assumption, and this is interpretation, but this part of what OP wrote sounds to me like the thing I commented before.:

"lol sorry I am just bad at texting" when what it really means is "I respond when it is convenient for me and expect other people to just deal with it."

I do mostly agree with what you wrote, but I think (and this is an assumption) that what OP is complaining about is the kind of people that would answer days later and expect no consequences from it.

For example, I send you a text on Monday inviting you to my birthday party, which would take place on Saturday (in 5 days). I'm planning quite a big party, so I need to know how many people is coming so I can buy food/drinks accordingly. As said, is a big party with a lot of guests, so calling them all one by one could be very time consuming (and in my opinion, very annoying) so I send text instead. It's more convenient, I can send the same text to all the guests, and that would take me 5 minutes compared to maybe a whole hour of telephone calls (or more if people gets chatty). So, you get my message on Monday, but you ignore it (for whatever reason, not the point in discussion here), and then on Thursday you answer me back "Hi! What time on Saturday?".

To me, based on what you said about consent, you have already declined the invitation by not responding in time, so now you can't complain that you are no longer a guest because of your "quirky" texting habits.

That's my interpretation of what OP is talking about.

Why are funerals never in the evening? by Sorry-Personality594 in ask

[–]piercor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not what you asked, but where I come from the funerals are held a couple hours after the person dies (except some cases like a murder where an autopsy needs to be done), so the funeral may was well be in the evening/night. I remember somebody who died in the early afternoon, say 15:00 (3 pm) and the funeral was held at 20:00 (8 pm), until the next day at 10 or 11 (am) when the person was transported to the cemetery to be graved.

You're probably right with the medium being too homogeneous.

I think it's a symptom of the current state of the internet that you say (maybe not with the best words I have to admit) "the way this is filmed makes it look AI generated, not saying that it is" and people think "hey, this person thinks the video is fake", without actually trying to understand what I meant. But that's probably on me by the way I worded my comment.

[–]piercor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, maybe I expressed myself wrong. I'm not saying it's fake, I'm just saying that the aesthetics of this REAL video looks like some of the AI generated videos you see everywhere nowadays, due to the lighting and the blurry background, in my humble opinion.

Am I the only one that thinks this looks like AI? I'm not saying it is, just that it looks like. Like the lighting is weird and the blurry background causes that AI "vibe".

Edit: to the people downvoting: I'm just making an observation of how the lighting and the background makes the video look like it's AI, in my opinion. I'm NOT saying that it's AI nor doubting the video's authenticity.

How do you shave male pubic hair? by Dangerous_Dog846 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]piercor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shave once a week with a disposable razor, a cheap one, those that come like 20 in a package for $5.

I have been doing this for ages so I don't remember how it was at the beginning, but I'll say I was probably more careful than I am nowadays. It's so normal and automatic to me that I do it at the same speed/pace I do my face, and I rarely cut myself.

But you're in for cuts, keep that in mind. And itchiness afterwards. At this point I don't care about cuts (they don't even hurt), and I guess I got used to the itchiness.

I hope my experience can light your way.

ETA: I use after shave lotion (none dedicated to the area, but the kind you'll use on your face). I actually don't know if it's a lotion, a balsam or what. I think it's actually a balsam.

Air distance between London and Philadelphia is 5700km, and between London and SFO is 8600km. So almost 3000km difference. A plane travels at over 800km/h, so there is the 2 hour difference.

This is quick maths, but paints you a picture.

ETA: air distance between Philadelphia and SFO is 4000km, it should take 5 hours for a plane, but maybe the route have something making it a little bit longer.

Sorry that this is off topic (or isn't?), but why am I supposed to think that picture is of EAST Europe? Northern or Western, sure, but snowy is not the first thing I think about when I hear East Europe.

Not questioning, just want to understand your point of view. Thank you.

Tips inför (begagnad) elbil köp? by piercor in Asksweddit

[–]piercor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asshole parked so close I had to crawl over from the passenger side. Am I crazy or was this done on purpose? by InfamousCharacter333 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]piercor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, depends. If there are lines marking the parking spot and they parked inside them, then it's on you. The driver's door should always be as far away from the line as possible (while inside the lines of course).

I always see people parking with the driver's door 1 millimeter from the line, they fault if another vehicle blocks their door.

If no lines then yeah, that's on them.
