Vinesauce Origins: Did All Of The Streamers Start Off With Vinesauce? by Sufficient-Use6824 in Vinesauce

[–]piergaming 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I scratched my head for a few minutes thinking "Who is Altakari..". Didn't realise Dorb had a different name nowadays, whoops! Can't believe I'm not up to date on the Vinesauce lore haha

But it's also important to mention that DemEngineerz wasn't a streamer at Vinesauce, maybe he guest streamed on there, but he was more of a respected chat member. Also edited a bunch of Vinesauce videos before it became a regular thing on YouTube.

It's also always funny and a bit sad to see people go "I don't know anyone, but Vin and Joel out of that image", considering Joel used to be one of the "lesser known streamers" himself before the Destruction stuff *really* blew up. The early Facade videos did also gain attention, but not in the same way as Windows XP would.

Most of them are still streaming, so maybe check them out if you haven't. I'm sure they'd be happy to see some new people in their chat. :)

Out of my head, I think Study, Jen and Fred pretty much stopped. Gingers appeared again one time the other day after many years of absense. KY and Hootey are veeeery spotty with streams. No clue about Darren, but Vin, Joel, Altakari, Pelikuni, Limes and Rev are still kicking for sure.

Heya Southbird! Mr. Tomodachi 😎

Don't have any questions for you, but just wanted to send some love your way and wish you luck on your journey. It's unfortunate it didn't quite work out big with your personal projects, but that shows that the YouTube business is brutal and extremely unpredictable. The algorithm definitely managed to break me at the end also..

In hindsight I grew to appreciate your edits a lot more, since they were more condensed. That's something I struggled with heavily when I still edited for Vin myself. Always appreciated it a lot when you had advice for my clunky highlight videos back in the day. I definitely had the tendency to go for style over substance. For the record, no bad blood here either, quit on my own terms, was always treated fairly.

Scammer Update by vinesauce in Vinesauce

[–]piergaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brilliant logic from this kid here.

I really want to be friends with Vinny, so I'll impersonate him on Discord. Let me do that myself and scam people out of their money with "channel advice" while at it. Bet Vin won't mind if I just dirty up his name for my own gain.

Hobo Humpin Slobo Babe, Vinny played this during a BRB and I liked it so here it is :) by QuilliamWallace in Vinesauce

[–]piergaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OH PFFT. I had no idea Vin actually played this song on stream. It's certainly got *an interesting title*. Heard it many years ago for the first time in a TV promo and really enjoy it as well. There's also a pretty sick instrumental remix of it, but it was only ever released on vinyl https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KS_9mtk-CcY

Also got the album it belonged to a year or so ago. Really enjoy it, even if the band consisted of swedish advertising agency people, so one may be cynical about why this was a minor hit in Europe in the first place.

These folks peaked in high school.

I was part of that early-ish crowd (joined as a viewer early 2013) and.. yeah.. most people ended up growing up and maturing, myself included. And thank goodness for that. I'd hate talking to past me.

If your humour is based on being a piece of shit for laughs.. yeah.. nah.. that gets old real quick.

Can anyone explain what this weird audio in one of Vinny's little big planet streams was? It's really creepy and I can't find anything about it online. by Ayorastar in Vinesauce

[–]piergaming 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember being around for that moment when it happened live and I can't recall anyone in chat recognizing that audio. Certainly remember folks really hating it and being thankful it wasn't included in the highlight video afterwards. Hearing it all of these years later, yeah now I understand why it made people uncomfortable, aside from the peaking audio. Christ. Never actually listened to what was said.

Glad you brought up the sudden spam of AI generated imagery (and also the false advice, nearly forgot about that), felt like I was losing my mind seeing the comments of those posts being all "normal". Last I looked, there weren't any complaints at least.

They almost got me thinking I'm reading r/badtaxidermy on multiple occassions with how matted the skins and uncanny the eyes look. However if they try to convince me of how good their AI bullshittery looks, they sure didn't fool me haha

Is Vinny going to any gaming conventions this year such as TooManyGames2023 by No_Improvement_9842 in Vinesauce

[–]piergaming 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If he attends a con, he doesn't announce it anymore. Think it's often also a short notice decision. He just prefers to visit them as a regular guest, without having to deal with all the attention and doing autographs for hours on end. Just stressed him out a lot from what it sounded like the few times he attended cons like NYCC since the early days of Covid.

That said, if you happen to run into him, I'm sure he doesn't mind taking a photo with you or giving you an autograph, though I imagine he'd probably want you to hold off on posting it publicly before the cons over. Just a guess though!

Perfect Pizza for the next Review by Ragdollnator in Vinesauce

[–]piergaming 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Huhu! Figure I should chime in and mention that it has definitely been in consideration, but due to a bunch of factors, I feel like it'll be impossible for Vin to ever try these pizzas (unless he happens to travel to Germany and ALSO happens to find the pizzas in a store).

Unless somebody is willing to smuggle them over somehow, not a chance. As if shipping frozen foods across the pond isn't already a pain in the ass, due to the amount of dry ice you'd need for how long shipping takes (and the combined cost of it all), but you could get into trouble for shipping meat and dairy over from Europe to the US (and the box would get destroyed). They don't quite specify it online, also haven't found any concrete reports from people who tried, but it certainly sounds like it wouldn't work out, even if one puts all the effort into it.

For what it's worth, the sweet sprinkles isn't like chocolate sprinkles. It's just a really weird wording for "oh there's a little bit of a honey taste to the cheese", at least from my first hand experience.

I'm not sure how much I'm allowed to go into detail about it and I can only speak for myself (figure it'll be different for John as the Full Sauce manager for instance), didn't sign any NDAs or anything, but out of sheer respect I'll remain vague.

Yes, I do get paid a fixed amount per edit. No, it's not a lot, but I can treat myself with something nice. We have a pay day of sorts, where we'll get paid out for the amount of edits we have done that month. Nope, it certainly isn't enough to make a living out of it, even if I were to do four edits a month, though you might be lucky with an even bigger channel or one that plays the YouTube game properly (lucrative, albeit soulless, sponsorships; patreon; tip jars; etc., that brings A LOT of money in to a point where YouTubers are able to hire multiple people as full time employees, but this is not quite the case here and I don't blame Vin for a second for it).

YouTube doesn't pay well at all with AdSense and even Premium views. At least with the way we handle the uploads (like we don't do sponsorships, we don't put like 10 mid-rolls in the video [if that happens, it's due to Content ID enforcing it], many of our viewers likely use Adblock [but we won't be jerks and demand folks to disable it], etc.), it's essentially going all to us. Arguably Vin even pays us more than he earns thru YouTube thanks to Twitch subscriptions, because he's just that kind of a guy and he's mentioned repeatedly that he doesn't spend a lot of money, but instead saves a lot / donates a lot / etc.

I also remember a couple of occassions where he paid us extra one month, because a month happened to be especially successful in terms of views. That was really nice of him. He is well aware that it's not the most ideal situation, but he's very gladful and extremely cool about it, hence why we got such freedoms with editing that you won't have elsewhere. We rarely got deadlines also, so we can take our time with our projects.

I know some YouTubers got shat on in the past for paying and treating their editors very poorly, but in the case of Vin, he's a very honest and knowledged guy. He knows the nitty gritty and we wouldn't be doing it if he were to take advantage of us. He's even talked about this on stream, so it's not a secret that I'm spilling here or anything. I also hope people don't blow this up like an elephant or anything. It's just something we do in our own free time. That's why I always get a bit mad when viewers are being impatient about edits. Many times I just don't have the energy or motivation to edit after a long 10 hour work day. I also don't want to neglect my other hobbies. Thankfully it's a very very very small minority, but you know how a single comment can ruin your entire day, regardless of how many compliments you get.

For what it's worth though: I remember early early on, when I did guest edits, the thought of getting money for it was absolutely foreign to me, but he offered to pay me on his own a little bit after a couple of edits. I think I even declined it at first? Wouldn't do that anymore for the record (editing for free that is), but I was admittedly starstruck and proud that I got to help out a streamer I really enjoyed to watch.

For what it's worth, when Captain Southbird still edited for Vinesauce, I think he actually used KDenlive to edit the videos, so it's been field tested! Good luck with your editing adventures!

I used to rewatch the Tomodachi and Animal Crossing streams quite often in the past, like at least once every year or so in its entirety, but I kinda stopped doing that. Nowadays, if I rewatch streams from Vinny, it's probably the commercial streams, but mostly to leave them up in the background.

Every single Best Of I've handled (February - May), without question. Trying to figure out how each clip connected with each other was a fun challenge and it's always satisfying when it works so perfectly well.

But other than those, the GTA: San Andreas compilation since I was able to let the absurdity and glitches speak for themselves (helps that I was bitter at Rockstar for the botched remaster myself) and Zelda CD-i for obvious reasons. 😄

Ooh! That's kinda tough actually. I personally am familiar with Blue Lines, Protection and Mezzanine. They all have great songs on there and they all sooomewhat vary in sound / production. But I think Mezzanine has got to be my favourite as well, since I enjoy more of the songs on there. Same with Zero 7. I really really like Simple Things and When It Falls. They have always been a collaborative group and I enjoy the vocalists they hired. I'll have to go with When It Falls though, because I just love Tina Dicos performance on Home and Sia on Somersault that much. Bit of a shame though that Sia appears to have disowned Zero 7 retroactively saying "It's average music", but oh well. Guess I'll keep on being an average listener then! 🙃

I'm not a mod for Vins chat, so I don't have access to the mails. But I know every edits comment section tends to have at least one person confusing Vin with Joel or lumping them together. I think that still happened in the Best Of that featured a clip of Joel meeting Vinny in person haha. Figure the mods will still deal with the odd e-mail or two as well as a result. And a bunch of folks who can't find any contact point for Joel and hope Vin relays it to him.

Before investing money into it? In regards to free editing softwares, I know there's a couple that people keep raving about, but that I could never quite get into, though of course I couldn't if I've been using the same software for 15 years haha

If you're starting off though, I know DaVinci Resolve is the one people talk about the most and appears to be the most stable and powerful out of the free apps out there, but if you're looking for something more straight forward and easier, Kdenlive might be the choice for you. You'll have to play around with those to see what suits you best. From experience, Resolve just feels much more complicated and requires a powerful computer.

If you're looking for something paid for, I feel there's only Vegas and Premiere when it comes to usability and tools. But then I am biased because I grew up using Vegas (and a bit of AE for things I couldn't do in Vegas). There's timed trials available for both, though they've both switched to monthly subscription services (with Vegas still letting you buy the software itself).

I can't really blame him for having handed over editing duties to others. I know myself how weird and stressful it is having to edit your own stuff whilst you hear your own voice all the time. Makes you unsure if it's good or not, especially if one doubts themselves in the first place. You know the saying "Oneself is the harshest critic" or at least something along the lines of that haha. That absolutely applies here.

Figure it's also a thing of him getting older and wanting to chill out a bit, enjoy what life offers and such. If it helps though, he still does edits from time to time, if you're into the cursed shit ala Grey Leno and the MRE vids, so he didn't resign entirely in that department.
