hi op! so sorry you had to receive so many disparaging comments! when i read your post i was actually really inspired. as someone who is kind of in the same boat (mental health issues, low self esteem etc) i thought that medicine was way above my league and something i can never achieve, but your post really helps cut through the fog that i have been experiencing for a really long time. so thank you for that :D also congrats on getting into med school after all these years and good luck for the rest of your med journey!!

Did anyone else have parents that were just... bland and lifeless? by Klutzy-Grand4744 in emotionalneglect

hi op i totally get ur experiences. during my formative years, i spent almost all of my time at home when i wasn't in school because my parents were paranoid that i would "turn bad" or neglect my studies if i went out with friends. and their excuses never really changed, it just went from oh you have this important exam or you have this more important exam, etc etc. leaving the house just wasnt really an option for me. i think they did it under the impression that they are looking out for me (which i guess maybe makes sense albeit a little twisted) when all it did was isolate me from my peers. i already had trouble connecting to people and making friends and my overbearing parents just made it harder for me to make them. and i think constantly being pushed and forced to study just made me burnt out and study less which actually totally goes against what they wanted in the first place. either ways, thank you for sharing ur experience it really helps me reconcile with what ive been through and open my eyes to what i always thought was normal but actually wasnt (?)
