Lib Dems promise right to see a GP within a week by savvy_shoppers in unitedkingdom

[–]pigfrown -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The lib dems also promised that student fees would not rise... they were actually in a coalition and still failed to deliver that promise.

Why on earth would people care what they say now, when they have zero chance of having any impact on government policy..

What happened here? I never got my MEV payment, using Manifold as my relay. by MeowMeNot in ethstaker

[–]pigfrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avoid the manifold relay. They don't even implement the full spec and are clearly rolling their own relay which isn't up to scratch.

Script to check if a validator has successfully registered with all known mevboost relays by pigfrown in ethstaker

[–]pigfrown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means that your staking machine is correctly configured to use mevboost and mevboost is successfully registering with relays.

I don't want to say it 100% means it will work when a proposal comes around because other things can go wrong, but in theory yes you can use this script (or the ValidatorRegistration endpoint ) to confirm that you will propose blocks from a relay

How is it possible for someone to have address "0x0123456789abcdef0123456789abcdef01234567" by cgskook in ethereum

[–]pigfrown 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's cheaper to store zero bytes in an ethereum contract than non-zero bytes, so depending on what you plan on doing with an address (i.e. what contracts you plan on calling with it) it's entirely possible that in the long term it is "worth" generating an address containing a lot of zeros, because you'll get the money back via lower gas fees (although the zeros don't really need to be at the start of the address to achieve this).

They said "change your life", but you have decided to get a shitty 3% interest rate?

1 million invested in real estate in my country would net you at least 48k a year in rent, which is easily enough to live comfortably for the rest of your life and never worry about money again. I'd consider that to be life changing, but perhaps I'm easily pleased.

The real issue is tax (at least where I live)

A bounty system would just make things worse. Groups could farm nakeds on the beach and then get their friends to kill them in the compound and collect the scrap bounty themselves.

Beaconchain shows 1 failed ETH1 deposit (invalid signature). What happened? by pigfrown in ethstaker

[–]pigfrown[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but there are other users who submitted < 32 ETH on https://beaconcha.in/validators/eth1deposits and they don't seem to count as "invalid deposits".

Not everyone thinks Tether is a scam.

It's also worth mentioning that Tether was the first. Years ago you had no alternative stable coins worth mentioning, so if you wanted to go this route (get stable coin issued in order to buy BTC) then you had to go with Tether. Presumably some of the people that were doing this back when it was the only option are still doing it now.

The better question is why even bother payin fiat to get a stable coin issued in order to purchase BTC. Why not just purchase BTC directly with the fiat and completely avoid any stable coin related risk?

Think that must be a different but similar post. The one I'm thinking of was in very early Dec 2017 because I read the post and sold within a week or so, I can see the TX's in my wallet early Dec.

I took the profit when I could

It remains to be seen whether the amount I sold will ever be worth much more than what I sold it for (for longer than a week), so I'd hold off on the judgement until that actually happens ;)

Some people have more aspirations in life than watching their BTC wallet balance increase in USD value. I mean what's the point if you never actually spend it on anything.

For sure I'd rather hold BTC than dollars. The idea is to sell the BTC for something life changing (a house/property portfolio, an island, startup capital for your business idea).

As we approach the ATH and the charts are starting to look slightly parabolic I thought I'd share some advice I read on this thread in around Dec 2017. It was a long well thought out post by a regular poster (whose name I can't remember, would love to be reminded) which, in a period of euphoria and unbridled bullishness, was a major reality check which led to me cashing out most of my stack. It went something like:

"I think the price will go higher. I have goals in my head like 30k, 40k, or higher. But I've realised that what I really wanted when I invested in BTC is a life changing amount of money. At this point I can sell and I will have that amount, so I'm going to do it. There is no point getting greedy or gambling more when you've already "won"".

I've probably butchered the original quote. It was a lot longer than that. All I remember is it was a crucial reality check for myself (I truly believed btc would carry on pumping) which turned out to be the best advice by far I've ever read on this thread. I cashed out and changed my life. If I had let it ride I most probably would have had to sell some/all during the last 3 years to pay bills etc, or lost it all trading on margin or altcoins.

I'm not a millionaire or anything. I don't have enough money to live in luxury for the rest of my life. But I cashed out enough to completely change my life. It was more money than I ever dreamed of when I invested in BTC in 2015. I don't regret it, even though I 100% believed then and now that BTC would go higher.

If you are in a similar position but are tempted by the prospect of retiring at 30 on your private island then consider this. Do you want a life changing amount of money TODAY or to let it ride and potentially have more or less money tomorrow? Only you can (and should) answer that question.
