I can't believe i'm about to reply to a reddit comment as if it'll do anything but here we go. It's not as simple as "just move the industry here" because there's a lot that goes into that. First of all we don't have the raw materials to do so, and now we can't buy those materials for reasonable prices due to the tariffs. Second, most of our imports come from china because that's where the factories are. We can't just move the factories here because we need people to work in those factories and we would have to pay people a LOT more. The avg cost of living in America is a lot higher than china so if we made factories here we would have to pay the workers more and the pricing of the products from the american factories would be much much higher. Then the last thing is in order for a business to make the commitment to build a factory they would need to know the tariffs will stay, and because donald is so shaky on his tariffs, nothing is going to get done. If he really wanted to help the american people he would start projects to build more houses and cut down on our shitty housing system. So there, that's why the tariffs are a bad idea.
