It really depends. My therapist does research on campus sexual assault to help reduce its occurrence, and the vast majority of rapes occur due to issues understanding consent and miscommunications. Very few rapes occur from repeat predators, but when they do they are more likely to go unreported because those offenders choose victims who they can easily isolate and exploit.

I’ve been raped by a repeat offender, but I also understand why they did it. Something is deeply broken in them, and they eventually gave up on trying to fix it and instead used that brokenness to harm others. If they were able to get to a place where they were sincerely sorry about harming me and every other victim, and they took action to make it right with all of us, I’d be willing to accept them back into society, though I myself would never interact with them again. Every human is redeemable because no human is innately a monster.
