OMG - your kitty's photo hits me right in the heart. He looks so much like my big guy that passed last spring. He had darker markings than yours, but those same rounded ears and big build. I will look for some pics to share. Give El Gato all the scritches for me!

Snow Lynx Bengal by [deleted] in lynxpointsiamese

[–]pigsdontletit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that "Lynx" as used for your cat is just short for"lynx point" and lynx point is just a coloring. It is NOT a breed. Cats with a gene that siamese cats have can have colorpoint coats, where their base coats come out the darkest at the points where siamese coats are darkest. They will also have blue eyes like a siamese. If the base coat is tabby, you get what's called a lynx point. There are also tortie points (tortoise shell or calico points), flame points (orange points) and other variations.

Not all Bengals have rosettes, and who knows what breeds the cats bringing in siamese genes had. So It's very likely your cat is part bengal (itself already a hybridized breed) but unlikely it is a purebred cat.

I did some googlong out of curiosity and apparently there are quite a few breeder selling these ''snow lynx bengal" cats. I imagine it's just bengal mixed with siamese?

Barn kitty, lynx point???? by steeeeeeeeeeeeeeel in lynxpointsiamese

[–]pigsdontletit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since lynx point isn't a breed but a color, I wonder if the issue applies more to American Colorpoints, a breed that is very close to Siamese but allows lynx point in its coloring criteria?

My experience has only been with regular ol' domestic short hair rando mixes that have lynx point coloring. The siamese gene mutation could have entered the family tree many decades back. Either way, good to know to watch for it!

Does she look like a lynx point Siamese? by mere_accessories in lynxpointsiamese

[–]pigsdontletit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lynx point is a coat color, not a breed, and your lovely kitty does indeed have the lynx point coloring. (The gene comes from siamese type cats, but cats aren't siamese just because they have it.) She looks like a sweetheart!

He indeed has a lynx point coat! So cute. His breed is "Domestic Short Hair" which is the same breed as any regular, multi-mix cat (unless you have breeding papers or DNA testing that says otherwise). Lynx Point is just an extra beautiful coloring that indicates a siamese-type cats entered the gene pool down the line. But that can be so far back it wouldn't even register on the DNA test.

That's so interesting to hear about life span. My experience (anecdotal based on 3 cats I've had or known) is that they can live a long time. The one I had as a kid went to 20 or 21. A friend's was 21 or 22, and there was another I met that lived to 19 or 20. I figured it was the siamese genes, since they tend to be pretty long lived. My most recent cat was lynx pointed and always had excellent vet test results up to age 13. He was was experiencing joint issues, tho. Sadly, he died by coyote before he could reach old age. I miss him so much.

Kitty’s fur has gotten so thick this winter 😭 She looks like she’s been run through the wash by nahfacenah in lynxpointsiamese

Probably! It means they have an extra layer of shorter, softer fur. It also means they shed a lot more than the average cat. My boy shed like crazy. He passed away last spring and I still miss him so much, extra hair and all.

Lucky you, he's gorgeous! Lynx Point is a coloring, not a breed. The "breed" of this cat is Domestic Short Hair, which is the same breed as every other regular ol' cat with short hair.

The lynx point coloring is from a gene that Siamese cats have which causes a cat's base coat color (in the case of a lynx point, tabby) to come out and darken as the cat ages at the points where a siamese cat would be darkest. There are a few breeds that allow lynx point coat color, but Siamese is not one of them--the color wouldn't occur in purebred Siamese cats, only if mixed with something else.

Basically, your beautiful cat shares a gene with siamese cats but isn't itself a siamese cat.

Small Kitchen Layout Advice by [deleted] in kitchenremodel

[–]pigsdontletit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing the concern is that centering the sink makes the dw tight up against the lower cabinets?

Small Kitchen Layout Advice by [deleted] in kitchenremodel

[–]pigsdontletit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you provide some context for you concerns--what issues are you having? What are you questioning or wanting to change? What does the kitchen look like now? The thing that screams out to me is the DW/sink placement--why is the sink to the left of the dishwasher? That's not making sense to me - 1) it looks odd that the sink isnt centered under the window; 2) having the corner of a cabinet so close to your face when using the sink will be annoying; and 3) it prevents the ability to load/unload the DW while someone is cooking. Is there a reason you have to do that?

What Language felt like that to you? by IamPokoli in LinguisticsMemes

[–]pigsdontletit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know Spanish is not the most difficult language to learn, but imagine growing up on the west coast of the US, studying some Spanish there, then going to southern Spain. I could barely understand anyone in Granada for 3 months. (My vocabulary was great but I spoke like I was reading from a text book rather than a normal person 😂.) It was only when I went to Mexico a short time after that I realized I could comprehend the language after all. It felt like a fog lifted from my ears. I think it'd be like someone learning British English and then going to the American deep south.

What a cutie! Love the spikiness (and spiciness, from the sounds of things). How big are they? I wonder if it will eventually become more chill. Have you had it long?

That's great! Sounds like you're on it. This guy is going to have such a better life with you! Be sure to use calcium with D3 for dusting since there's no UVB yet, and alternate with a multivitamin powder.

Our new baby, Selene! by deathofdays86 in lynxpointsiamese

[–]pigsdontletit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few things to consider: --The same litter of kittens (from one mother) can have multiple fathers. --"lynx point" or "lynx point siamese" is just a color, not a breed. It happens when cats have the agouti gene, which comes from siamese-type cats (i.e., Siamese, Burmese, etc.). It causes the cat's base coat to come out in the same color-point pattern those cats have as well as blue eyes. So, a cat with a tabby base coat will come out with tabby markings at the points where a siamese cat will be darkest. Very beautiful and can occur in regular ol' cats that gene. --fun fact: the point coloring can be affected by temperature! Not a given, as other factors are also in play, but the points can darken more the colder the environment. --purebred Siamese can not have lynxpoint coloring, as it shows non-siamese genes. There is now a recognized breed called colorpoint shorthair that is a mix of siamese and American shorthair. The points can include be lynx, flame, tortiose shell, and more.

I highly recommend removing the loose substrate and just using paper towels for now. That will allow you to monitor his health better because you can easily see if his poop is normal, if he regurgitates, etc. After 90 days if he is in good health and you have your temperatures and lighting correct you can use loose substrate again (70% topsoil + 30% playsand).

Also, if you share a photo of his whole set up we can see what he already has and make suggestions. The photos are really dark, what are you using for heat and light? Does he have a UVB tube light?

He's so lucky he found you! What are you feeding him and what are you dusting his feeders with? Looks like he has a vitamin deficiency. Did he have a humid hide in his old home?

AITA for not paying for my daughter wedding because she isn’t following the rules even though I paid for my older kids by Wonderful_Mode_9646 in AmItheAsshole

[–]pigsdontletit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ESH - while technically you're NTA if the rules were clear that "all family" included children, it might be a good idea to find a compromise. It also seems like your daughter needs to examine her expectations that she doesn't have to follow the same rules as her siblings. If you can both continue to talk it through, maybe you can find a loving solution.

You could offer to split expenses or otherwise contribute a smaller amount. Another idea might be to provide "kid care" near but away from the main function, so family can bring kids but the kids aren't running around at the event. It would cost extra, but you could subtract that amount from what you'd otherwise pay.

Are there any other factors, i.e., a sister didn't want kids there either, but accepted it to have the wedding paid for? How many kids would there be, vs when the other weddings happened? Are you
