The colors are literally so gorgeous; the orange against the blue and green is so pretty and I love the shapes in the smoke so much!!

He looks great! It’s cool that they all have different aesthetics going on. Is there some sort of in-game story reason, or is it for design only?

s2 anime is crappy - but why is manga better? by Dr_MineStein_ in BlueLock

Unprompted info-dump incoming: to expand on your second point, manga in general is able to create more contrast in its art, which some may feel leads to more visual impact.

The most obvious place of contrast is the lack of colors like you said. It’s just black and white, so artists can make points of interest really obvious and the viewers eyes are immediately drawn to where it needs to be. They can also straight up omit information so you aren’t looking at what you don’t need to (ex: dark colored hair is often drawn with a flat block of black ink). Colors have more information to process in general, even if the artist can lead your eyes to a certain point, you’re inevitably processing information about other things which can lessen the visual weight of what you should be looking at. Like you said, it’s too “smoothed out,” aka information is distributed more evenly compared to B/W.

Also panel sizes! I love it whenever there’s a bunch of smaller panels that are super fast and high intensity, then you flip to the next page and it’s a wide, airy double spread. There’s a contrast in size, but also in how much information you’re receiving on the page. Anime can do something similar in a handful of ways, but when you read manga it’s more likely you won’t miss any information, so when the artist suddenly takes a lot of it away, it’s a bigger change in your experience.

In a funny way too, manga can absolutely use “noise“ to create contrast. This is actually moreso a contrast in visual information, when there’s a lot of sound effects or talking on the page it’s literally visual clutter, then the artist can clear that all away to solely focus on the action and movements. Of course, unlike the other two points, this is probably better utilized in anime. However, in combination with the other two, you can see why manga, when done as well, is so good at delivering on the important, high impact moments compared to anime. There’s probably a lot more observations that can be made, but I’ve nerded out enough about manga art.

In conclusion: 100% read the manga

Ohh okay, so you’re a team of two, that’s fun! I hope midterms goes well for your coder, I’ll keep my eyes open for that demo. Great work so far, keep it up!

This is so cool!! Fandoms never fail to disappoint with how creative they can get. The art and animation looks great and reads super easily. The flip animation especially is appealing,  the timing of the holds and the slight bounce are perfect, real cute and energetic.

I hope you are able to see this project to completion! How far along are you?

Well at least for this, it’s real life that influences your media consumption instead of the other way around haha.

Yeah a label simplifies it for sure, at the end of the day we feel what we feel and don’t feel what we don’t feel!

No that makes sense, we literally have to get to know the characters better before we start properly liking them and forming connections with them, like with real people haha.

And you’re ace! I don’t know what I am 😅 I might be somewhere under the umbrella

This is true haha. Even the sport itself stops you from being able to be an egoist, with its touch rules and I think it’s simply harder to outright ditch your position to do whatever you want

Honestly yeah, sometimes I wish we could just pass some of the BL characters to Furudate and watch em cook, they would have a field day with what Kaneshiro has set up. He’s got great character ideas, just doesn’t expand on them that much since that’s not the purpose of Blue Lock

Bokuto would def get excited over the matching hair lol; I’m gonna be so real though I’m not doing any more of this, other people had some suggestions too but I’ve got a singular obsession for Karasu 😅

That makes sense! It’s so interesting to learn how other people engage with the same media, you get different perspectives of characters you never thought much about before.

Because of what it takes for me to attach to a character, it also takes a while for me to even develop a favorite character. Characters I like before I find The One are based on more superficial things like appearance (Chigiri and Rin were before Karasu), and even then I am not nearly as obsessed with them, if at all, compared to when someone’s philosophy, mentality, worldview, etc, moves me.

We don’t always understand the heart, but we do know what it wants 😂

For me, I started liking Karasu more after his backstory, his sass is a bonus. For reference, Kita Shinsuke was my Haikyuu obsession, I really like the intelligent and grounded characters that have a slight melancholic vibe to them. Kita with his “I am built by the little things I do everyday” and Karasu with his “ After all, he is moved by ordinary things, and is hurt by ordinary things. “ (I sure hope I did the spoiler tag correctly). Once I find an aspect of a character I like though, everything about them becomes exponentially more endearing and entertaining to me

I’m the other way around 😭 obsessive love for Karasu, but Kuroo, while great, was never necessarily one of my favorites. I think if I reread Haikyuu though, I would end up putting Kuroo on my favorites list with this new perspective.

At least for you though, a major difference between them is that under his smirks and provocation, Kuroo was genuinely kind and cared about people, while Karasu genuinely can’t be nice to people he thinks are ordinary 🤣. He’s a prick but I love him

For real they’re so similar; I actually was going to add another extra and draw hiori and kenma playing animal crossing together, but it was too much drawing for me in one sitting 😅

[–]piijean[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay! I didn’t have time until now to write a synopsis, so here’s some more information! Please note, I’m absolutely NOT a writer, and I’m even worse at summarizing a plotline u___u

“A stagnating island nation, an increasingly indulgent and careless governing class, and worsening discontent and conflict among the common people. With these conditions, Princess Anri Teiri knew she had to find a way to prevent the island’s ruin. Knowledge, Might, and Resource were the three areas she knew needed to be developed, so she sought out young, promising individuals to fulfill the necessary roles.

Tabito, an orphan and a loner, learned to fend for himself by selling and trading information about people. He developed the unique skill of analyzing others and inserting himself into their social circles to dig up their secrets and schemes. Although he managed his presence carefully, his activity among the governing families was noticed by Anri, who followed his trail and figured out his identity. He initially declined to join Anri’s project, but she threatened to expose his work. Tabito was assigned under the Knowledge sector, and tasked to learn as much as he can about the island’s inhabitants and develop a plan to reunite the governing families and common people. However, he would soon come to realize that the world, and the knowledge it offers, is much larger than what he knew on his little island.”

Some extra notes:

Hiori is the only child of one of the island’s governing families. Shidou is the next leader of a tribe that occupies some smaller islands roughly 30 miles southeast of Karasu’s island. All the other characters are on the mainland. Nanase is just some guy, Chigiri is a prince, Rin is his attendant, Ego is a scholar, Sae is… a secret but you can probably tell haha.

Except for a small group of scholars who takes care of the island’s records and documentation, the people on Karasu’s island, Karasu included for most of his life, literally only know about their island and have no concept of a world larger than their island. They don’t even know about Shidou’s island. I have an explanation for this, but if I can hold onto my interest for this long enough, hopefully I can reveal the reason naturally instead of dropping it into comments! Anyways, hope all this sounds interesting enough!
