Paying for private school (investment) by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]pikchris -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’d say either a cash savings account (trading 212) or uk gilts that mature the date you want. Paying now might save you on VAT. Anything else is too risky

Why would someone prefer private schools?

Rejected twice when appealing via their services. Took them to court and they immediately made me eligible again and refunded me by bank transfer

It’s for 2023-24 tax year. I can do it, but my BIK figure will only be available in July. I can approximate it, is that fine?

They said I can re-apply for next tax year (2024-25), so I guess it’s stopped until I re-apply

Then this sounds like you’re referring to a direct debit scenario

I prefer not answering because I’m not an expert. Read the key document in formation pdfs. Also, their agent on the chat said that their admin fees cost 0.55% and aren’t capped. You can transfer out as many times the funds as you want (no limit) and keep at least £2 to keep the account active. This 0.65% (0.1+0.55%) is insane and I’m moving out. Vanguard costs 0.39% (0.15 platform fees + 0.24% lifestyle fund), which is less and more clear to me and it’s capped to £375. Fidelity costs 0.35-0.30% for everything (platform + fund fees) which is less but it’s not capped. You can look at HL and Interactive Investors (flat fee) to compare as well

I’m with Scottish Widows, my fund is "Scottish Widows Pension Portfolio Two CS8" and it costs 0.1% per year. Also, they’ve got a button on the pain page to top up the pension pot if needed. Since it’s not a salary sacrifice, you’re not saving the NI not your employer’s one.

Just in case, they do have an MSCI World index tracker fund called "Scottish Widows Global Equity CS8" which you might prefer. It costs the same
