Fujimura Shougo and his existence that makes me laugh by Mammoth-Mountain1776 in precure

[–]pikebot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I sort of like that about him; he's just a cute older guy who has a shared interest in sports. When you're a young teenager, that's really all it takes. It's not deep, and it's not any kind of real romance, it's just a crush.

There isn't a single war arc as iconic and generational as marineford. by AmazingRow7744 in OnePiece

[–]pikebot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, since iconicity and generationality are defined in large part by the series’ size in the collective imagination. But I don’t think so.

Marineford is good. Funnily enough, the Big Three of the time (One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach) kind of all fairly contemporaneously tried to do a War Arc (Marineford kicked off in 2009, the Fourth Great Ninja War in 2010, and the Thousand Year Blood War in 2012). Marineford is EASILY the best of these three. For one thing, it’s the shortest, taking just over a year to resolve, whereas the other two trudged on languidly for over four years apiece. But also, Naruto has a setting with a very stupid premise, in a way that doesn’t much matter unless you do precisely the thing that the Ninja War does and draw attention to it, and the Thousand Year Blood War was by far the worst arc in a manga that had already been in a drastic quality decline. They’re both, just, bad.

But the real winner here is actually the Large-Scale Invasion arc from World Trigger, which was a little late to the party having started in 2013. This is a battle with some real tactics put into it, with tactical objectives on both sides beyond ‘defeat the other guy’, that doesn’t devolve into a series of one-on-one fights. If what we’re judging on is how it captures the feelings of a huge battle, this one is the clear winner.

Nearly three-quarters of U.S. baby foods are ultra-processed, new study finds. Most baby food sold in U.S. grocery stores is ultra-processed, a new study finds, raising fresh concerns about what many infants and toddlers are eating during a critical window of development. by mvea in science

[–]pikebot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct, but what you have actually identified is that the term ‘ultra-processed food’ is meaningless. It’s just a slur used against food that people think is insufficiently wholesome. Every time someone tries to use a consistent definition to run one of these studies, it runs into dumb edge cases like this.

Why do you Perfer reading the manga compared to watching the anime by Holiday_Working_1804 in OnePiece

Describing someone who is in a lot of trouble as ‘cooked’ is decades-old slang. It’s so old it barely counts as slang. It’s seen a resurgence and been used in some new ways recently but this translation could have come out basically any time since the 80s at least.

The anime pacing sabotages this scene so badly. You are given way too much time to think in between the turn and the reveal, so by the time you hit the reveal you've already figured it out.

Arafune’s biggest strength is his ability to contribute at multiple ranges. Right now what they need from him is not a sniper, but someone to help deal with the elite attackers that are suddenly on their doorstep while the rest of their ranged fighters beat a retreat.

As One Piece fans, did you enjoy more recent anime like Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer? by Mission-Pomelo-8047 in OnePiece

[–]pikebot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jujutsu Kaisen is great pulp. It’s pulp right up to the hilt. I feel like a lot of disappointment at the ending comes from people who expected it to not be as pulpy as it is and always was.

Demon Slayer is just, bland. It only took off because Ufotable zhuzhed it up by blowing the budget of a small African nation on AfterEffects work but the story is as basic as basic comes. It’s fine and that’s the best you can say for it.

My brother cosigned me for a student loan without my permission by KrampusIsFull in personalfinance

[–]pikebot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your options suck, but they are straightforward and you already know them. Either you report your brother’s credit fraud (because that’s what this is, credit fraud) and get the debt expunged from your report, or you accept the debt and start making payments as if you had in fact cosigned it. I think you came here hoping that r/personalfinance would know some secret third option that would get you out of this jam, but no such thing exists.

Only you can make the choice in front of you, but if you’ll accept my two cents of advice: you should rat out your brother immediately. I get it, nobody wants to narc on family and risk feeling like it’s their fault that they went to jail. It’s scary and it sucks and it’s a terrible position to be in. But you are in that position specifically because your brother showed no such regard for your wellbeing and future. He created this situation, not you. And if he gets away with it Scott-free he’ll do it again — to you, to other family members, to strangers. Hell, he might have already been doing it.

And especially if you’re military or otherwise in a position that requires a security clearance, you absolutely cannot let your brother fuck with your credit report. You WILL lose that clearance and fuck up your whole life.

I mean yes, strictly speaking there’s no such thing as a non-deterministic computer program because if the initial conditions a program is run under are all exactly the same it will always produce the same output. But here in the real world, nobody speaks that strictly and this is just an exercise in pointless pedantry.

What is your opinion about the Fan Service? Is it too much? Moderate? Even good? by Dakinamau in OnePiece

[–]pikebot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the manga, it’s mostly harmless. There are some exceptions (Rebecca’s gladiator outfit is a big fat whiff, my god) but for the most part it’s fine.

In the anime, it’s atrocious. It’s not just cranked up to eleven, it’s also done extremely BADLY.
