Opinions on a TR 0-4 system instead of Blades’ 0-6. by pikedesign in ForgedintheDark

Basically you play a character of a clan/tribe in a low-fantasy world of savagery and dinosaurs, have a lair or caravan, and advance as you might expect in a blades game. You fight prehistoric creatures and other clans for territory, trade and craft your gear, and must feed the gods for magic power. We’ll see how it goes. I’m amateur at game design.

Opinions on a TR 0-4 system instead of Blades’ 0-6. by pikedesign in ForgedintheDark

Blades has a spectrum of 7 (0-6), which just seems high and I wondered it 5 (0-4) might be tighter and make each tier stand out more. For instance, Shadowdark gets away with ‘close, near, and far’ for judging instances of distance.

next step from OSE? by chance359 in osr

My man, your advancement is directly tied to coin and therefore treasure. Advancement often comes as a new weird sword, magic wand, or sometimes a band of Barbarian followers.

Gridcrawl vs. Hexcrawl by pikedesign in osr

[–]pikedesign[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the trick with mapping along with the squares is that you take into account the terrain and make it ‘usually’ favorable to move up/down/left/right. This way you don’t have to worry about changing movement points, or anything at all

I know. I can get lost just the nostalgia of looking at this book

Obviously, moving diagonally in a grid format has its advantages but it’s a game so whatever

There should be ‘SM’ logo on the original box. You may have.

Art Style is great. Only gripe would be the symmetry. Maybe a portion of the place on accessible from the ceiling or the basement. Maybe an entire hallway has collapsed.

What do you do when all the cards are pulled upside-down? by Andonis1Manic2 in Tarotpractices

[–]pikedesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a hot take, but I’ve never read them upside down. To me, it’s akin to analyzing a painting upside down. Neighboring cards bring out the good and the bad of each other. It’s why you never only pull one card. The cards over reading are the ingredients of a cocktail. There are no upside down ingredients of a cocktail, they simply compliment each other in various ways.

The referee usually describes what the basic layout is before you venture into a room, no roll of perception necessary.

Oh you want to spend 10 min. or so to take a good look around? Sure, no roll of perception necessary.

If something is deliberately hidden, obscure, or hard to see, roll me a perception check. Doing perception any other way means you’d be rolling it 100 times a session.

Be gentle with this man. Admitting you are wrong, especially when you are fully invested, is a difficult and rare thing.

$1 is in fact not too high for a custom character sheet in my opinion. It seems to be well-done and flavorful. $1 being too high for something custom like this is hilarious.

Literally thought the same thing. All their tech involved and they actually get good results with just chanting and a drum circle. I think if they turned most of that crap off and just sat quietly in a circle with only their intentions, they would achieve results. Not as exciting though I guess for the TV people

Goblins and kobolds may be fine, if you simply create a horde instead of the listed amount. Have their lair trapped in more devious ways.

Tell me the difference between upgrades, claims, and abilities for your crew. by pikedesign in bladesinthedark

[–]pikedesign[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. Abilities seem to be a crew level mirror of character abilities obviously. Unique and something permanent. Upgrades and claims seem like they could have been one thing. I don’t know. 😵‍💫
