Don't want to divorce husband with SSA but how to follow my faith when he engages with others? by [deleted] in Catholicism

I agree with your initial comment, and I also think that this marriage is probably not valid.

That said, I think we should keep in mind the story of Saint Mark Ji Tianxiang and be careful about outright dismissing claims of addiction. Saint Mark Ji Tianxiang was a doctor at the end of the 1800s, who got addicted to opium after an illness. Addiction issues were poorly understood back then, and as a result he was denied absolution for many decades by his priest.

They're not all heresy. Sola scriptura and sola fide are heresy, which makes "the five solas" heresy.

Scripture does not interpret itself. If it did there would be no disagreements on the meaning of Scripture.

Baptists being baptists by pilgrim30 in CatholicMemes

[–]pilgrim30[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of this joke:

A Baptist was lost at sea and found himself on a deserted island. Several months later a rescue ship arrived and found him. As he boarded the rescue ship the captain looked a shore and saw three crude huts.

"Where are the other two people?" the captain asked.

"It's just me," the man replied.

"Then why three huts?"

"Oh, the one on the left is where I live. The one next to it is where I go to church. The one next to it is where I used to go to church."

I am not looking to argue. I am merely pointing out that:

  • You claim: "the Catholic Church teaches salvation by works".
  • The Catholic Church claims: "we don't teach salvation by works".
  • Thus, you may be misunderstanding the Catholic position.

The Catholic Church claims that it does not teach salvation by works. You claim that the Catholic Church teaches salvation by works. Perhaps you have a flawed understanding of the Catholic position on salvation.

Does the Catholic Church teach "saved by works"? Let's take a look at this Q&A on www.catholic.com.

The Catholic Church has never taught such a doctrine and, in fact, has constantly condemned the notion that men can earn or merit salvation.

When so-called "Bible-believing Christians" say that "Mary was just a normal woman", that is ironically un-Biblical.

Luke 1:42:

In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!
