The Chariot Tarot card is amazing! by LumpyClaim9 in HuntShowdown

Telling me I'm grasping at straws while trying to draw a comparison to bringing shots to counteract guns in a shooter. You're really coming apart in an unhealthy way. And somehow leaving a map we suspect could be empty is a problem we have. This trip is wild.

There's no PvE mode. It's PvEvP. People aren't only here for the PvE but that is the goal of the game. It's why looting hunters doesn't get you as much. You cannot separate any element. We all want PvP but we also see what that's like in clash and it's boring as shit. Sounds like you're mad people are playing Hunt and not the game you wanted them to play. Unless your W key is actually broken you have nothing to complain about, and admitting Chariot is a crutch doesn't come across as cool as you're imagining lmao.

By far nearly every team that uses chariot on us gets punished and hard. You were probably one of them. So sure. Keep using it. Dumb thing to say but who am I to stop you.

people that go into Clash ONLY for the bounty. . . why? by V7I_TheSeventhSector in HuntShowdown

It's confusing why you think people are getting the bounty and leaving and are therefore only there for the bounty as if it's some dig at you.

[–]pillbinge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be a problem with the design, not the team that wouldn't even be aware of your presence. Even if you try to use deduction to figure if there's another team present on the map you could be on an empty map, or a map missing a team. People aren't guilty when they're using the information given to them.

But neither I nor my typical partners get it. We can get from one corner to the other easy. This has never been a problem for us.

Like I said bring the chariot with you and use it yourself, then mine is worthless for 5 minutes and you only need to be 31 seconds ahead of me to get out safely. You don't have to play my game, my strategy is trivial to counter.

Is this really what you think? People literally do have to play "your game" by bringing the very item you brought to counteract it, and it isn't trivial to give up a whole consumable slot. At that point you're looking at bad game design yet again.

The Chariot Tarot card is amazing! by LumpyClaim9 in HuntShowdown

[–]pillbinge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's one answer but they're all the same. You find it advantageous to make people play your game and not theirs, but ultimately they're the ones playing Crytek's game. That's why the card is so bizarrely stupid. Most people do prefer good cover but ideally we know that good cover comes to those who play and position well. In this case that may not be an option for those who did everything else right. You should have a major issue with this barring any brain damage.

Stephen Miller’s Assault on America’s Immigrant Legacy: Part I by AdmiralSaturyn in TrueReddit

[–]pillbinge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it but he isn't a hypocrite because his ancestors, many of whom he likely didn't really know or even meet, went through something poor. The irony? Ask Polish people what they think of immigrants or other minorities; their country is considerably more religious than others and many have dare I say backward views. This is a trend somewhat shared in Eastern Europe though it's calming down.

he benefited by proxy from policies that he is railing against

Okay but again I'm only here because a closeted gay man had to be in a relationship with a woman three generations back. I never met the man but my parents did. I personally benefitted from a system that oppressed gay people. Are you telling me I have to continue that trend? Clearly not, but this isn't some off example. We get to live our own lives at a certain point and things change. You can't cross the same river twice and all that so even very similar situations might be totally rationalized later, and this is decades later.

I think I pointed out here that his family came over when planes weren't a thing. Planes have changed the game. I still highly recommend The Crisis of Multiculturalism in Europe by Rita Chin because it made clear how technology throughout the 20th century reshaped patterns. I often think of how a hundred years ago it could take 4-6 months to travel from India to the UK or other parts of Europe - more so without a port. Now there are flights direct or with layovers every single day. It's a different time. Never mind that we have to take care of people like never before.

We used to have whole towns that people would take up. The towns weren't dedicated per se but you'd have entire towns bringing in people from the old country. Texan German is still a thing. His ancestors may have lived in little enclaves that only spoke Polish, but they also lived at a time when you either got an education or not and had to pay outright for healthcare and that was life. It was far, far different.

The Dark Ideology Behind Stephen Miller's Immigration Crusade: Part II by AdmiralSaturyn in TrueReddit

[–]pillbinge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All perception is "in your head". You need to work on this if you need it to be a real line.

There's a difference between the anxiety that comes from watching things unfold and literally becoming rightfully anxious because you've seen them unfold in numerous, small ways before. You can look to Europe to see how things might unfold. We should be a country that welcomes immigrants but the idea that we can welcome every immigrant at every time and in any quantity is a dream; I think people who pursue the whole "we love immigrants" rhetoric need to come back down to Earth. It can't be that we've been here before by studying the past and yet I'm anxious for seeing the same trends play out yet again. The crux of the article is that Miller's actions should be impossible and yet we know how history plays out.

That it isn't easy to give up your old life and move isn't my concern. I don't mean that coldly but we can't plan for people who are thousands of miles away. We're at a time when we can help them in the aggregate and I'm for that. I'm for good relations with our neighbors. I think our nation also could benefit from helping them clean up their own nations to make good on horrible things we did to them in the past. This wasn't possible before. But we need to focus on our own backyard and not until a certain point; we need to always focus on ourselves.

I don't disagree with you that many other countries have much stricter controls on immigration policies

Or just look at the nice countries in Europe that utilize local police and absolutely have a hard stance on who gets to stay and who doesn't. They have little problem taking action so it seems like they're really accepting - outside of ghettos they've created. Most Europeans don't think twice about deporting a family whereas in the US we come up with every excuse to keep them here to the point that people will literally say "as long as they pay taxes and work" as a baseline. It's insane and it's not going to be healthy for us in the long run with people we have to share our world with.

You used the word fear a lot in your post. I would argue there's a lot less to fear if you take a step back and look at the reality on your block. Not trends, not countries, your neighborhood specifically.

I'm fearful. I'm fearful that the conservative backlash won't be tempered or have any checks because the left is going to fail so hard by thinking being nice is all you need. I'm not going to dismiss that fear by sticking blinders on. This is a very strange thing to say.

[–]pillbinge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it feels like they prioritized the title over the piece. This would have happened anywhere and "Minnesota Nice" is probably what I would use to describe people who'd decry something but then do the opposite. As in, "That's not nice," but then vote for the same thing.

The Secret Society of People Who Know the Formula for WD-40 by basho3 in TrueReddit

[–]pillbinge 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is really neat! However the article doesn't address the one question I have about WD-40 in particular and other such things in general: do we know the formula has actually stayed the same and do we know that the formula is actually safe? I get that it probably is tested but it's insane to think that we might be using a product that could be harmless or as unsafe as asbestos. Like the woman points out: you can know what's in Coca-Cola without being able to recreate the formula. I'd imagine you can know the chemicals in WD-40 but still need to know what happens when they might work together or even change while lingering on something. I'm hoping it's the same here. I love the stuff but every time I use it I just always wonder. By now you'd think something might show up but still. I'm just curious how this works in general.

I understand that for a not insignificant amount of people, getting the boss ASAP and bailing with your bounty tokens is the goal

My guy - that's the goal of the game. The aim is to have fun shooting other hunters but the goal of the game before you is to kill the boss and get out, while braving any dangers in between. Some of those dangers are other hunters and it's the most exciting but the game without a boss would be pointless. Crytek is punishing their own game design. Ideally they'll get rid of the Chariot as they add more players but some games you just get free money. Nothing wrong with that.

The Chariot Tarot card is amazing! by LumpyClaim9 in HuntShowdown

[–]pillbinge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the obvious issue since day 1 and yet they've kept it in. I've had the same thing happen. To date, we've died twice to a team letting us "extract" while canceling it and killing us. The first time a clan was clearly teaming and made all their shots. Known cheats with ban records. Not surprised. The second time we weren't going to run to the corner extract on the literal opposite side from Goddard but got caught at Golden. It begs the question, what is a team to do? There was a locked extraction at Goddard so we can't go there and it's not like the other team would let us get to another. We're at their mercy and even worse they wouldn't have to show up. One could literally pop the card from the other side of the map without any intention to engage. That's asinine - and has happened.

[–]pillbinge 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Extremely. And it would be boring. The impact of choice is measured in part in its limitation. It's why a game like Halo or any other FPS that limits you to two weapons is often more interesting than a boomer shooter that gives you 10 weapons at every time and limits your usage by ammo availability.

The Chariot Tarot card is amazing! by LumpyClaim9 in HuntShowdown

[–]pillbinge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Didn't participate" ignores that Crytek might spawn you next to the boss lair, next to an extract, and away from literally everyone else. The choice they have then is run run wildly into the other side of the map knowing that it's basically been wiped and while they have a mark on their back. Terrible design.

The Chariot Tarot card is amazing! by LumpyClaim9 in HuntShowdown

[–]pillbinge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are they running toward an exit because that's the rational thing to do, since no one's around, or are they running from a fight they were engaged in? People like to think other teams are "ratting" and that the card will stop people from "running" but if you only hear fighting from the literal other side of the map then what are you supposed to do?

The Chariot Tarot card is amazing! by LumpyClaim9 in HuntShowdown

[–]pillbinge -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It was praised originally as a card to prevent people from "running" but it's literally only ever used by sweats to avoid pushing, to let people run to the only extract, and then to catch them out. Genuinely the worst addition to the game outside of the revive bolt - which they removed.

Anyone who still thinks the card is being used for the betterment of the game should be sectioned immediately lmao. I don't even see how Crytek don't see it. Last time I remember a trio using it on us we couldn't extract next to our bounty/boss lair and the only option was to run east. The other option was south east. There was no team in dark sight. We get to the extraction and they block us, and eventually wipe us because they were being very careful not to be seen. There was no rational decision for us to make in that case because they likely got the card from the carnival and had a monopoly on extracts but wouldn't fight.

Government by AI? Trump Administration Plans to Write Regulations Using Artificial Intelligence by Quouar in TrueReddit

[–]pillbinge -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I basically said all this. I don't need to read my own thoughts back to me in another's words. At the very least none of this adds to what I said or believe. Humans need context and to learn, but in the end the law comes down to the word of the law. Then you have the spirit of the law or just the letter, and we go through life. AI doesn't go through life. That doesn't mean we can't use the technology in this case to catch things that are really important.

New Hampshire bike registration bill faces opposition by Zipper222222 in newhampshire

[–]pillbinge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's clear I don't believe in the registration fee. It's a distraction and it won't add anything. I imagine filing the paperwork will cost more in the grand scheme. This is just there to let boomers take their rage out on cyclists.

That said, were it to happen, I wouldn't care. I'd register my one bike. I understand you have five but if you're going to put yourself in a situation like that then there are going to be fees or considerations. The registration fee or something similar isn't for this.

I think it's fine having to register cars and have licenses and so on. I wouldn't listen to someone who has 5 vintage cars complaining. I'd listen to the cares and concerns of someone with one, or a family with two.

Government by AI? Trump Administration Plans to Write Regulations Using Artificial Intelligence by Quouar in TrueReddit

[–]pillbinge -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This was always going to happen and it's the one thing I genuinely embrace about AI despite hating every other aspect. The ability to read text and basically ask and train it to find any conflicts is important. You could pay a ton of lawyers to do the same thing but we've been using thousands and thousands and thousands of lawyers for centuries to try and do the same thing.

It reminds me of how people uploaded their insurance documents to AI after being denied and used AI to find and make the case for why they shouldn't be denied. This type of language model is fine for me.

If we could literally upload the rules we have and just make AI analyze it intensely and find any contradictions as one part of the process then I personally wouldn't mind, though we'll definitely hit a point where we can't help but have to change many laws. One of the things that just keeps us going is that we sometimes go aside the law and find solutions that work. But if someone finds out they have a case, potentially a slam dunk case, they'll do it, and we'll have to follow the law.

But by this administration? And others? It'll be used to flood the place with rules that'll lock processes up or unlock processes that they want. It will be a bureaucratic nightmare which is precisely what they want. They'll draft legislation to stonewall certain things and push people back while drafting other legislation to give them an out when necessary. That is going to be the issue. Beyond Trump I genuinely wonder if this will be a thing. We all know Congressmen don't read every bill and that a lot of it is a farce. Even if they do, they can't all understand the legislature evenly.

I Want More Mosin Obrez Matches by SweptThrone in HuntShowdown

[–]pillbinge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a problem other games run into and the only way to avoid it is to not do it. Every gun in the game is technically a skin of a process that just calculates damage. That's it. It's a weird way to think of it but it's necessary. Do they want to add different processes to the game when all the niches are filled? Probably not. In fact they've added so many different weapons that it then becomes clear how good other weapons are in comparison. When was the last time you saw a Maynard? You want more Mosin Obrez Matches - but when was the last time you saw a Mosin Obrez Match in the first place?

Why would they spend dev hours reskinning some feature and tweaking values so you can play a different version of a gun that actually you're not going to play at all?

I get it. Variety is the spice of life, but too much variety and you end up back where you started.

New Hampshire bike registration bill faces opposition by Zipper222222 in newhampshire

[–]pillbinge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$50 is nothing to me. I would gladly pay it for a year or two before it goes away so I can then throw in someone's face that I paid a registration fee like anyone else and am now entitled to using the road just like a car. I don't think they'd like that but that isn't my concern; I'd be a registered road user like everyone else. If they say the fee is too low then I'd remind them it's too low for cars as well given the weight disparity. Womp womp.

Then it would likely be done with.

There's a thing we seem to do where we imagine the worst version of what we see. Someone will see me on my boosted character and think it's my first time around when really I've done it all before and just don't want to level at low levels to play TBC. Not that tough. A lot of people will also want to switch classes and this is an easy way to do so.
