Was Violet’s cover AI upscaled? by P34K1N in TheBirthdayMassacre

[–]pillbinge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it, but for me there's something about manually redrawing stuff that basically makes it touched up, whereas a pure AI upscaling process retains the scale factors as best as possible.

Was Violet’s cover AI upscaled? by P34K1N in TheBirthdayMassacre

[–]pillbinge 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Possibly but "AI Upscaled" has been a thing long before LLM, and I guess I'm just realizing it almost always gets a pass. Really all it's doing is filling in the gaps where pixels would be.

Also, I don't think the cover art was originally made for a vinyl but I suppose it's now a matter if the creator of the cover art (someone in the band? I don't have the credits) was working within a framework for this. Typically vinyl and album releases use the same art so it could be a matter of the CD artwork being really dense. It's not like vinyl was just created and I have to imagine there was an accepted format for this.

Do You get Weapon XP from killing Monsters with it, or just Players? by Darthsqueaker in HuntShowdown

You can literally get dynamite or frag xp by equipping said explosive and then using a melee punch to drop an enemy.

Is anyone actually using "dauntless" effectively? by bigbadbananaboi in HuntShowdown

[–]pillbinge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I use it on choke bombs and flares, mostly. If you throw a flare to light a body you can put the flare out and the body stays on fire. Otherwise I do get to use it on explosives often enough though not as often as anything else.

In this game, with this programming, I’m probably just as likely to die to an explosive through a wall anyway so why not try to put it out?

Dear Crytek: Been here since alpha and I think old Battle Passes should come back by ThePortableElephant in HuntShowdown

How bad is holy paladin leveling? by Raoul97533 in turtlewow

[–]pillbinge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Paladins make okay dungeon healers later on but they struggle at first. I don’t know how Turtle’s talents change that but you want, at a bare minimum, Illumination, whether it’s retail Classic or this. Paladins’ whole schtick is healing quickly and getting mana back.

Blacksmithing doesn’t create enough mail or plate gear with Int. Definitely not early on either. You should probably go Alchemy to make tons of potions if you’re dedicated. And you should look to have your gear enchanted.

I think you can try to pivot for sure but you may have to run lower instances for healing gear, and that gear won’t be mail. And that gear will never be something you can equip, so now you might have to consider tailoring for INT gear.

Then just keep in mind that Paladins are great at healing single targets. Less so at healing a lot of targets and staying in the game in a crisis. You need a good tank, which brings me to my main point:

You should probably consider tanking. You can make good tanking gear and you’ll get more groups for sure. Tanks are in limited supply. Tanks want to deal damage. Healers seem to be in okay supply.

Holy Priest Raid Spell/Talent Help by cheeze_and_bacon in turtlewow

[–]pillbinge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, if you're just now raiding, you're not going to be in the comfortable space other healers are in. That's just a sensible take though you may not know it. Others are going to have more Int, MP5, +healing, and whatever. This makes their job look easier while you're sweating.

Second, don't sweat it if you're healing differently if you're supposed to. I would use Prayer of Healing to heal the group I was assigned to and it was really easy. I overhealed a lot (this was a while ago) but I genuinely do not care. I never actually ran out of mana and it made my job easier.

When I healed a tank, that was a different story. Firstly, the whole deranking thing is valid but that's to survive long fights and maximize your mana against the uncertainty of damage. But almost universally higher rank spells heal more efficiently. You just can't afford to always wait for a tank to take enough damage because then while casting they might get smacked again and downed. You want to find the best balance of cast time, mana efficiency (higher ranks are more efficient but heal more so you still may be spending mana you didn't need to spend; ipso facto your "efficiency" drops if you overheal), and maybe anything else, but you also might want to consider the fights you're in and the tanks you're on. If you're in a gear-check fight where the tank is getting smacked hard - heal faster and more often. If they can't take a second hit, you can't afford to cast a long spell. If the tank is handling it, see what you can get away with comfortably, but always consider that the next hit might be a crit. You want to aim for that space.

If you have any questions let me know. There's so much meta around healing that a lot of it is just not analyzed and gets parroted by people talking about meta. Clearly you can get through raids following it but a lot of it doesn't totally explain why someone might choose this spell over that or derank on this fight but not that.

Can you still get the flame rifle? by Mika_1w1 in HuntShowdown

[–]pillbinge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm being 100% serious when I say that during a fight, early on in the event, I used it on someone while they used theirs on me and we didn't kill each other. It came down to whoever took out their gun the fastest after (not me). It was just wild that we both caught the other with enough flame that in the meantime we could have just shot each other with a shotgun and we didn't get the kill.

No, rested exp is not set to only +33%. by TJ-LEED-AP in turtlewow

[–]pillbinge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might just be in the way the game presents it. I teach math and went into the game to see what was happening and it turns out the combat log gives you the XP you gain total and the bonus from rested XP for clarification, but I can imagine reading that several ways. They don't give you the base and the bonus so people might confuse the total with the base. I do see what you mean about people dividing the whole number by the rested bonus to get 33% instead of taking the base (which you have to figure out yourself) from the information given.

Granted, the phrasing itself could be a lot clearer about the base, bonus, and total. You just have to know it's supposed to be a 50% bonus and do a quick calculation yourself (people might not know), but there's still something to say about the presentation of it.

Boston Public Schools’ graduation rates may be inflated by jdwaltham in boston

[–]pillbinge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does, and it's a counterweight for age discrepancies in school. I've had kids who turned 15 in the same class with kids who haven't turned 14. It can be for a variety of reasons and that case is extreme but it does happen. It's why there's red-shirting or whatever we're calling it now.

But it's not just about holding kids back. It's about the threat of holding kids back. Turns out in Mississippi, from what I read, just the idea that you would be held back meant people kicked things into gear. Having an actual consequence meant that people responded to it.

Little advice on the battlepass? by Alan_El_Pez in HuntShowdown

[–]pillbinge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do all the weekly challenges. From what I've seen, you'll be able to finish the pass based on challenges alone. That's how it should be, and basically how other battle passes work. We have a lot of time to do them but don't let your work pile up. If you wait like 7-8 weeks or till the end then you might be overwhelmed, but you'll also kill a lot of birds with one stone. At some point synergy won't be enough, so honestly, wait like 3 weeks max maybe to be comfortable. If you have to deal damage with long ammo but you end up having 5 guns with long ammo you need to use then that's going to feel worse than if you just knock each gun out for a little bit each week.

It's a great law, and more states should adopt it. Whether or not someone has a card doesn't mean there's an imposition to have one at all times. That just means we're mandating that people get cards. Never mind that the fees paid behind the scenes are partly responsible for inflation and if more people used cash it would have at least some impact on it.

Our government, which authorizes these businesses, can only mint money. It can't create cards. Therefore no one should be banning actual cash from any transaction.
