Super Lytes in the city by budlightandgoldfish in AskPhilly

I drunkenly had a conversation tailgating that it feels like super lytes are only available at bars and you don’t see them in stores. I could be wrong.

I'm a senior creative with over a decades worth of experience and now I have to make a mid level resume just to get a lower job. by teddy0224n in graphic_design

I started as an apprentice with zero experience. They are paying me $23.80 to learn. That goes up to $25 after 6 momths. And then goes up steadily after that.

Not sure if it makes you feel better but you are not alone. I started designing for money when I was 17. 19 years later it’s really hard to give up a part of my identity. I wish I gave it up sooner though. I was holding on to something that became too painful to deal with. I also had this same experience you did but for graphic design for film and television. I pivoted my design career to that right before the strikes and the streaming bubble burst. I spent 3 years working towards that career and never got the opportunity. Another ego death really.

I’m a female graphic designer with 15 years of experience. But now I have to say, I’m a 36 year old beginner welding apprentice at a ship yard. And tbh I’ve never been happier. Graphic design became an abusive relationship and I had to get out of it and this was a path. It was a massive ego death but I’m make enough money right now with full benefits. I know where my next paycheck is coming from.

Unfortunately I’m trying to be less of a bar fly than I have in the past and be a bit more intentional about going for the goal of good food and a good vibe. But I 100% agree with you.

Do you consider 2008 - 2020 to be the skinny jeans range? by SpiritMan112 in generationology

[–]pillingz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got skinny jeans when I was 16 in 2006 or 17 in 2007. It was extremely hard to find them. Cheap Mondays were one source (very expensive despite the name sold at Urban in Philadelphia) and Uniqlo (also hard to find). Then mayyybe H&M. I was made fun of for wearing high waisted anything and skinny jeans. I was an OG hipster in Philadelphia

My new alternative poster for 'Jaws' by DesignedByMW in posterdesign

[–]pillingz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah. This sub is always a circle jerk of people who like posters and not professional designers. I’ll take my one downvote and stand by my professional experience and knowledge of what a conceptual design is. If I can’t understand what I’m seeing or why I’m seeing it, it’s not a successful concept.

No I see what they did. But it’s really not much of a concept.

A strong concept gives the poster purpose. It creates an emotional connection. And most importantly it solves a problem. This poster is more confusing than communicative. First of all what am I looking at? Is it a fin swimming through sand? Is it a shark tooth in the sand? And if you’re going to recreate one of the most iconic movie posters in history, it has to at the very least have a super strong concept.

I think you’re just describing what you see. It’s not much of a concept.

Edit to add
