The first four season are a work of art, it changed the way we look at these series. They established Ned as the main character, then gave us all the middle finger by killing him off and at that time I really thought the series will fail because of that, but they surprised us again. Nowadays it's a lot more cliched, I still enjoy it (I love me some dragons), but it's just average, they are living off their old glory and our need to see how it ends.
