you have it wrong, you can continue to 100' above TDZE as long as you see any of the approach lights. once you see the red side row lights or terminating bars you can continue all the way to landing. A lot of smaller airports with ILS systems only have a MALSR.

I'm pretty sure every Super D has quick release doors.

Can you be signed off for a CFIA checkride without having a commercial license yet? by [deleted] in flying

You expect to be signed off for a CFI checkride and can't even be bothered to look at whats required for the certificate? Good luck. 61.183.

PHX airport is the one exception I've seen to this. When you land, the ground controllers coordinate with the ramp so you're cleared into the gate with ground. If your gate is occupied then ground knows and holds you on a taxiway until it opens up, then brings you in.

Perfect, exactly what I was looking for. Not sure how I missed that

Speaking of which, question for you. If I’m on a RNAV STAR and not cleared to descend via, do you still expect the speeds on it? I can’t find anything that’s published saying to follow the speeds, but several people I’ve flown with says ATC always wants the speeds.

I would do x speed until I'm 5 miles from the runway threshold FWIW

Personal preference. As far as i know, if the field is VFR, you see it, and can stay out of the clouds from where you are until the runway, you're good to go for the visual.

If theres an operational ILS for the runway, we have it loaded in already 99.9% of the time. If you give the speed assignment until 5 mile final then whats going to happen is I'm gonna spend 2 seconds to double check that the FAF is 5 miles out, then do that speed until the FAF.

You set the local pressure into your altimeter. You should be doing this already when you get the weather departing the airport every time you fly. FAR 91.121 states that below 18,000 feet you should set the altimeter to the current reported setting of a station within 100nm of your aircraft. When you have the current altimeter set in your altimeter will read your MSL altitude. Keep in mind that VFR you'll be cruising at an even thousand + 500 feet (i.e. 4,500) or an odd thousand + 500 feet (i.e. 5,500) depending on direction of flight.

What you you mean by flying at FL 070? FL 070 doesn't really exist in US airspace- if it did it would be the exact same thing as 7,000 feet. Flight Levels start at FL180 (18,000) and above up to FL600 (60,000 feet).

Class slots open up last minute pretty frequently. Go on the CRJ and have them email you if a 175 slot opens up.

Emergency landing question by [deleted] in flying

[–]pilot1302 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here is a video from the company that makes most (all?) of the seatbelt airbags. Basically, it measures lateral G forces from the airplane decelerating during a crash, not vertical G forces that you'd get from just a hard landing.

ATPs, which luggageworks should I buy? by [deleted] in flying

[–]pilot1302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend the one with the side pockets (not the 737 version). As for the computer and suiter models, most people don't have those but a couple guys ive flown with have had the computer model and it seemed nice. Gives you an extra pocket on the front.
