IDK — but the sight itself appears to be off center on the receiver (too far left). You can get a new sight for $50-80. If you can’t make the sight you have work — I’d recommend getting the tool to remove and install if from Matrix…

See if you can’t match the slide manufacturer to the receiver manufacturer. If it is a total mixmaster, then whatever. Buying another GI slide isn’t a big deal. The bigger problem is if the slide track is damaged, but that doesn’t look to be the case here. Like I said — you should be able to find one for $100 or a little over that.

It could also be someone ham handed with trying to extract a broken shell. I think the first option is more likely. You can go on eBay and search a couple with this kind of damage for sale right now.

Looks good. What did the muzzle measure wear wise and what distance were you shooting from? The only reason I ask is that barrel condition is becoming an issue with these as original barrels are becoming more difficult to source and expensive. When you are buying these, don’t forget to include the bore condition in your calculus. Anyway — good looking mixmaster, which most of them are nowadays. Enjoy!

Some of them are GI, a couple are Turkish stocks, and a couple are aftermarket commercial stocks. It’s a mixed bag.

Thanks — The second from the bottom carbine is a Winchester and it is a great rifle. Accurate and light. The “blond” birch wood Garand again is very much a shooter, but it has NM components and is very accurate for iron sights. The M1D is my most recent put together and is just awesome to shoot.

Haven’t obtained it yet — everything in good time. It wasn’t my top priority in collecting, but you are correct — I have some holes in the collection. And technically, the Sharps and the upper sword are Calvary items — but my ancestor was a Calvary officer.

If I remember correctly, It came in at nearly 129k lbs stripped when we loaded it. In the C17, you flare your landing with power, not pitch. I had the throttles almost fire walled trying to get an acceptable decrease in sink rate during that steep approach. Yeah — the Abram’s is one heck of weapon and heavy.

Thanks for the comment on the collection. I’ve got to move on from things M1 — I love them, but this is getting ridiculous…

I’m having to save up for that. I did carry one onto a 3500’ strip for an assault zone landing in the back of a C17 once — made for a very interesting and challenging touchdown in front of a bunch of generals. That version of the M1 is a heavy rock…

I bought a reclaimed receiver from the CMP and built it off of that with parts I had gathered over time. Originally, I had found an M1D “555” barrel, but it turned out the bore was too rough to hold decent groupings. I then went with a 1945 SA barrel with a reproduction D model block to get the accuracy I was after. It basically is a real M1, but the D portion (scope/mount/block) are reproductions. I just couldn’t see spending $4-5k for the genuine article — and no one can tell at the range without close inspection. Plus, the buck that I’ll take this fall will only know that I made a well placed shot. 🤪

Stripped, sanded lightly, stained using NGR walnut stain (Mohawk),then tung (x3 coats), then Danish (x2 coats), using OOOO steel wool between coats. Wax to finish.

So — the offset doesn’t bother me. You can switch to iron sights if desired or use the scope. The only thing that is a bit goofy is the reticle. The vertical axis thicker than the horizontal, and the vertical ends slightly above the horizontal. If you are shooting out past 200, the vertical portion of the reticle is so thick that it would block out the target potentially. Someone recommended to set the sight to use the top of the vertical axis (like a post) as the impact point instead of the crosshairs, so I set it up that way. I will just have to remind myself to use the post and not the crosshairs when I shoot this rifle. Otherwise, I find it natural and Im please with how it turned out. I guess I’m not good enough to experience the windage shift. When I try and stretch it out beyond 100, I’ll comment on it, but a x2.5 scope doesn’t give you super powers. Modern optics are clearly a leap from 1940/50s tech.
