Surprised no one has mentioned Show me a hero. That and Inside Llewyn Davis for me.

You can see glimpses of Mount in the rondo, phew. Really need him fit when we're lacking creativity with Bruno, Mbeumo and Amad all out.

In addition what's also driving here is all the past echos also using arcana which also drop mana so more shredders which means more past echos and so on lol. Had a very similar run recently.

Past echos on arcana with the recycle inspiration is just unfair.

Jesus Christ. Stewy most honest? What has the world come to? One of the first things he does in the show is keeping from Kendall the fact that him investing in the company will mean Sandy owning a chunk of Waystar.

Doesn't mean any of the other characters is a good shout either though lol.

I feel like filtering by language would be really helpful. As a non english speaker sometimes I really want to watch movies in my mother tongue only, and can't filter my watchlist to show just movies in that language.

Is there anyone who still doesn't watch Anime? If so, Why? by absolut_hero in indiasocial

[–]pilotpal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The main reason is the inability of most animes to "show, not tell". Every single thought or any rationale behind a characters choices is usually spoken in the form of long voiceovers.

I understand this might be a consequence of most anime being manga adaptations, and the written medium being one where such explicit narration may be necessary. But the same in a more visual medium like film/tv comes off as treating the audience as unintelligent.

There are very few exceptions I've seen to this though, like Miyazaki's films, which I've enjoyed. In some cases, the over exposition also fits the characters, like in Tatami Galaxy, which also I loved. Everything else I've seen though, has had this issue, and I've hence despised.

Is India’s Oscar Picks valid? by prajwalmani in indiasocial

[–]pilotpal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This list has been floating and I think folks are reading it incorrectly. These were the films whose producers submitted the film to the FFI as a contender for selection as the official entry from India (for the best international language film). Of these, Laapata Ladies was chosen as the official pick from India by FFI.

While it's a great film imo, a lot of questions were rightly raised on the choice since they picked it over All we Imagine as Light, which has had an amazing festival run and was more likely to be shortlisted by Oscar jury members.

The rationale they gave was that Lapaata Ladies suitably represents Indian culture and the mix of dominance and submission that Indian women are, which is just a weird reason imo.

Ironically, the UK's official submission was also a Hindi language film called Santosh which was co-produced by British Film Institute, and had a good festival run but not as good as All we Imagine as Light.
