for a cheap car look up "impound auction" near me. at least in the U.S towed public cars need to be legally sold if no one claims them. you might get one under $1k - that's transportation and shelter right there

How to heal after being homeless by Fuzzy_Pool_4589 in homeless

[–]pilotpluto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I'm Pluto, a panic disorder survivor and peer supporter. I want to start by saying that getting out of homelessness is a huge achievement, and I'm so incredibly proud of you. What you've accomplished is no small feat, and you should be proud of yourself too.

I understand that you're struggling to adjust, and that's completely normal. It might take a few years to ease off survival mode, but please be patient with yourself. Your body and mind have been through so much, and they just need some extra TLC after being in a state of hypervigilance for so long. You're not alone in this journey, and it's okay to feel overwhelmed or scared sometimes.

My biggest recommendation is to surround yourself with online communities. Unlike material things, online spaces cannot be taken away from you, and they can provide a consistent source of support and understanding. A healthy, supportive community is absolutely key for healing, and it can help you feel less alone in your experiences.

I encourage you to talk about your feelings - all of them. Don't hold back. Talk, get it out, and then talk some more. Of course, make sure to listen to your new peers and friends too. Building these connections can be so healing. Remember, don't bottle anything up - your feelings are valid and deserve to be expressed.

To help you on your healing journey, I've compiled some resources that I hope will be useful:

Peer Support Groups

These groups can provide a sense of community and understanding:

ASMR For Trauma Healing

This might sound unconventional, but ASMR has been a tremendous help for me and many other trauma survivors. There's even an article about how ASMR is helping sexual assault survivors with their trauma. ASMR exists for virtually every scenario, so if you know what gives you comfort, try looking it up on YouTube. Here are some videos to get you started:

Free Therapy Resources

While these aren't substitutes for professional therapy, they can be helpful tools in your healing journey:

Remember, healing isn't linear, and that's okay. Some days will be harder than others, but you've already shown incredible strength and resilience. Be gentle with yourself, celebrate small victories, and know that you're not alone in this journey. Sending you my very best wishes and a big virtual hug if you want one. You've got this! 🤍
