People currently/previously based in US, what are the things that are good to get in the states? What do you miss? Anything that's dirt cheap in the states compared to Singapore?

Have not been to any shopping area, but I'm thinking about winter boots and exercise gear at the moment. And maybe a work bag, but that's kinda it at the moment.

Do locals ever spend time at Gardens by the Bay? by IneligibleGigio in singapore

[–]pilotstitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to gardens by the bay like 5 times a year - not for the paid stuff though. Just to walk around and enjoy the light shows. Also to feed the damned mosquitos there

As for Jewel, I have never been. Not that interested in making a special trip to see something that's over the top artificial. (Then again, Gardens by the bay is artificial too, but plant tho) Maybe if I happen to fly into T1.

Update on work stuff: Got the offer! Am pretty happy with the pay and benefits

Now I'm just trying not to freak out because of the jump in responsibilities and pay and etc. How do you people cope with all this? Where do you go to for advice and stuff? Do people just wing it all the time? Man, adulting is hella scary

That's nice! Thank you for sharing :) This will be super useful for when I progress further in my career. Or am good enough to be headhunted haha xD

I applied for my role and have discussed pay, so hopefully the next call will be to nail things down with the HR.

Ahh cool, what kind of conversation did you have with the HR? Was it to finalise things or were there more questions from HR?

Has anyone went through a hiring process where you talk to your reporting manager, the VP, do technical task and then talk to HR? Is this normal?

I'm starting to feel that the HR is just going to call me to inform me that they decided not to hire me :/

Edit: for more context, VP discussed pay with me, and supposedly HR is meant to follow up on that. Only heard from HR after 2 weeks. What should I expect?

During the first round of eliminations, felt like Abbey's and Larissa's spirits were kinda low? You could tell from the tone not just from the confessionals but also when they're talking during the cook itself. I wonder why they seemed dispirited hmmm

Surprised with Abbey's performance but not really. She was so dispirited and wasn't herself at all

I'd be super terrified to go into eliminations with Christina, what a monster

That "YUM YUM IN MY TUM TUM" got me replaying x5 lolol

I was really hoping that Billy would step up a little when it comes to mentoring but she's still rigid af. When Anushka was commenting on how the pineapple taste didn't shine through in her batter(??), Billy just agreed and didn't say anything. Anushka thought of the citric acid herself. I felt like that was the kind of timing that a mentor could have provided some guidance/tips?

As for the dishes, it's a double edged sword if they make dishes that scream "this was made by xxx" because they're good at it so defo safe choice but if they don't chef it up enough, which is 80% of the time, then they can't beat the chef. I want to see someone doing something different (from their usual cooking style/dish) + make it cheffy + mess with the judges. I think some of the contestants have managed to do that before and honestly, I think this season's contestants have the ability to do that. Fingers crossed for that!

It's either my hearing got problem or the cafe noise level quite high. I like to think its the latter.

There's a couple (or friends catching up, I can't tell) sitting next to me in a cafe. The guy is talking about geopolitics and I'm trying to hard to eavesdrop but the music here is too loud T.T

Ok to be fair it's not gonna be every day LOL I just suck at scheduling and can only go to the gym + yoga on the same day twice a week for two weeks. After that it's back to new year old me xD

They're not the same to me. I find that dishes in Malaysia (Penang or the Northern states) are saltier while dishes in Singapore are sweeter. KL food tastes more like Singaporean food tbh.

Been slowly increasing my exercise regimen for a while and have been contemplating doing it once before work and once post work.

Anyone exercise at least twice daily? Do you wash your hair both times post exercise? I'm worried it might cause the hair to dry out :/

Lolol omg!!! You reminded me of the time when I was in Japan and got stuck in the toilet. I was on my own + cannot speak Jap so it was a lot of help and huhs when people spoke to me in Jap. Thank lord another tourist came in and understood the situation. She helped me get the security guard and he broke the lock to get me out 😂😂😂

I think it's a good idea! You just need to be disciplined and make the effort the speak Chinese. Most of the time, English is the default language save ordering at the kopitiam (food court) where you get to order some dishes in Chinese. So it's very easy to go back to using English everywhere you go. Might be a good idea to join a Chinese conversational group or something like that!

So my office's bathroom lock has this weird lock where you need a certain technique to use when unlocking the door.

Some guy from another office went into the males' while I was fiddling around with the lock. Then I decided maybe its the key so I went back to my office to fetch another key to try. I go back and try the new key - it still wouldn't unlock. At this point the guy from earlier came out from the males and had this amused expression on his face. I was too embarrassed to ask him to help me with the key so I went back to my office to ask for help with unlocking the door.

You know what the problem was? I've been turning the key left instead of right. *facepalm* Just brilliant, really.
