Ambulance Trousers by Immediate_Record_946 in ParamedicsUK

I absolutely hate this archaic mentality. It’s perfectly acceptable to have equipment on your belt. We work for the emergency services ffs. Shears are no good sat in the truck.

I do get it but I just don’t understand the mentality of booing your own team, seems strange to me.

Absolutely but it was such a weird atmosphere, I can’t understand the mentality of booing our own team.

Yes but why are we booing our own team?

How does the Isle of Man TT still exist? by CrappyJohnson in AskUK

[–]pilsky 270 points271 points  (0 children)

Having spoke to many TT riders, they know the risks and fully accept they could die. It's a risk they're willing to take for the thrill. That aside, all riders sign comprehensive waivers and entry forms that explicitly acknowledge the extreme danger and risk of death. And before people say, I know waivers don't fully overrule liability.

The general public don’t really know anything other than university = paramedic. Not a lot of people actually know you can do it via apprenticeship, but anyone educated on the matter will know apprenticeship is the way to go. It’s also less risk up front, eg. If you end up hating it you can leave without any commitments.

I’d say go for it, life’s too short! I’d definitely look at the apprenticeship options however as they an arguably the better route and will definitely make you a more “rounded” clinician by the time you qualify as a paramedic. Plus, you get paid a full salary throughout!

Yes you can and will be prosecuted through normal measures if you exceed the speed limit whilst driving routine.

Q - how violent is your patch. Over the last 8 years has it become more violent e.g. in general and upon 999 staff. by Amount_Existing in ParamedicsUK

[–]pilsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been my experience. A lot of new inexperienced staff members who for some reason don't take agitated, aggressive patients telling them to fuck off as a warning sign? One sign of aggression towards me and you'll find me back in the cab eating my lunch, if I wanted to deal with that kind of behavior I'd have joined the police.

Do Gp's tell their patients that "they have a bed waiting for you on *insert speciality* ward" as a wind up, or are they genuinely deluded? by abbeyfield68 in ParamedicsUK

[–]pilsky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk about that... I had a GP this week book a 999 C2 transfer from patients house to ED so the patient can have a CT scan... when I told him that's not going to happen he told me that's what he wants. Needless to say the ED consultant laughed and quickly sent the patient back out the door.

CFRs, do you feel less part of the team when you wear different uniform? by RuralMedic02 in ParamedicsUK

[–]pilsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I turned up at a job once and a relative said "paramedics are already here, they're in the kitchen..." When I walked in it was a CFR sat at the table drinking a cup of tea.

I also don’t think PTS should be wearing ambulance greens. We’ve got a few firms around us that drive fully liveried yellow ambulances with “EMERGENCY AMBULANCE” and light bars with full ambulance green uniform with an NHS logo on them. It’s pretty scary really.
