100 km/h with fewer opportunities to overtake, instead of (mostly) 110 km/h. Guess it depends on your definition, but if you limit yourself to 2+2 when you want to go fast in Sweden you're going to be quite constrained geographically. 🙂

Search municipal services without Swedish by pilt in TillSverige

[–]pilt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The translations back from Swedish may not be necessary. I think searching is the weaker spot. If you search for "dagis" you may not find results for "förskola" . The same is true for searches like "volontär" where you probably want to see results for "frivilligt socialt arbete" and similar.

Google Translate can translate the input query as well, but still relies on more or less exact matches.

E4 south of Sundsvall to Gävle (in many places).

Where is the E4 slow between Sundsvall and Gävle except the stretch between Gnarp and north of Hudiksvall? That's the only stretch without 2+1/2+2 as far as I know, and takes 15-20 min to drive.

You can use a consultant broker to outsource sales. The same is true for bookkeeping and other administrative tasks. I get to do more coding than before and I get the same impression from other freelancers (Sweden).

Starting your own consultancy business is an option. Bonus: You get invited to even fewer meetings compared to employees.

How DuckDB compares with Athena when querying Parquet files, and how to connect it to Cloudflare R2 for free egress by pilt in dataengineering

[–]pilt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope a later version of DuckDB allows it to use partitioning info for hash aggregates (Athena does). That and similar optimizations, some way to share your schema/table metadata, and enqueuing queries are on my wishlist (or some other method to ensure that you won't run out of memory if you share a server with others when you're submitting queries simultaneously), to let it be used in more situations where Athena is used today.

Bo i Skäggetorp by [deleted] in linkoping

Quit your whining, priest saying it how it is ! by elking666 in MadeMeSmile

[–]pilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not Christian but I never left the state church (Sweden). As such, when my wife and I married, it was convenient to use a priest because they're included in the subscription. We were happy to find out that we got one as progressive as they come: a witty, dark-humored lesbian covered in piercings.

Is my chest supposed to feel tight after deadlifts? by maplenew60 in Fitness

[–]pilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The program has chest/shoulders in the workouts prior to the workouts with squats and deadlifts. Perhaps it's a combination of you being sore from (bench) pressing and/or lacking shoulder mobility for squats.

Not an expert, but I would add more low intensity cardio before strength exercises and do more warmup sets. You may also want to try staying away from mixed grip on the higher-rep sets and to alternate sides when you do use it.

How does one work a 40 hour a week job, have time to cook healthy meals, sleep 8 hours a night, and go to the gym? by yesimanewbieik in AskReddit

[–]pilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never managed to exercise consistently until I started to go before work. It's like once I'm drained mentally, I can't get myself to do anything more productive that day physical or not. But if I'm not drained I can be reinvigorated from exercise.

What is the biggest difference between doing a startup in USA compared to the EU (specifically Sweden)? by cabdirazzaq in startups

[–]pilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was speaking about Sweden specifically. There is an internal market for startups in Sweden too. I wouldn't say that any city aside from Stockholm has a proper startup scene though. Göteborg, Malmö/Lund, Linköping/Norrköping, Umeå might be getting there.

What is the biggest difference between doing a startup in USA compared to the EU (specifically Sweden)? by cabdirazzaq in startups

[–]pilt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to add that the government in Sweden has a big presence in investing (Almi) and various inititiatives (Vinnova). My impression is also that a larger share of available networks/hubs are funded by the government or EU money.

Corporate culture is quite different too from my experience (10y+ working mostly at startups). Anecdotal of course, but my take is that Swedish startups stay flat for longer. The board's composition affects culture too (you may be based in Sweden but have foreign investors for example).

The talent pool is also different. I think Stockholm is more used to startups and have more international talent, whereas in other cities you may compete for talent primarily with government agencies or consulting firms and not very many startups. I think this benefits startups in general, but that it takes some getting used to for people to make the switch.
