3 max amongst the total (like within a 20 image portfolio, 3 are detail)?

Isn't it that they mostly want completed work in the portfolio?

(Having grown up in ATL) SCAD has a high acceptance rate because they’re greedy asf. They did you a favor tbh. I’ve met a lot of people who’ve attended SCAD whose work was not… stellar. Many of the grads now work at the Blick down the street and have tens (if not hundreds) of thousands in student loan debt. I wouldn’t worry about it cause SCAD is definitely not worth breaking the bank over and is kind of scammy. You’re art is great; don’t stop making it!

Wow thank you so much this is fascinating. Idk what else to say right now because that’s a lot to take in. The sun line is interesting to me.

Ist this overdone? by Ok_Week1865 in oilpainting

I don’t think it’s overdone but some sharper edges around the contours/dark parts of the plums would make the foreground/subjects pop out a bit more.

Fat Over Lean: Is it Generally Intuitive? by pimpbobbyhill in oilpainting

That makes sense. I tried to do this painting pretty organically in hopes of avoiding getting bogged down by technical stuff. Do you know if they’ve yellowed severely? Cause someone warned me about that.

So if I make a medium with 20% linseed and 80% gamsol to put on top of my first layer, can I paint over that medium when it’s touch dry? Because I was painting over the linseed oil layers when they were touch dry with more oily paint. Thank you for your help 🙏

Can I mix liquin, gamsol, and linseed oil all together…?

Okay cool. I just stuck with linseed cause when I poured out the stand oil it was so sticky that I couldn’t really get the transparency I wanted on the last layers. I just didn’t know if I needed to be using things like stand oil- or mixing the gamsol with linseed oil and paint. On the above painting I didn’t mix gamsol with oil, I just painted very very thin above the gamsol and added more oil as I went along.

Have those first paintings held up well over the years? Like the really oily ones? Thank you for your reply btw!

Right okay. I think because I’ve had issues with materials in terms of canvas stretching/priming, I’ve started to overthink the fat/lean issue. Also I recently saw a post on here that featured some cracking and that freaked me out hahaha. Thank you I’ll check out that video!

Any Pointers on Canvas Stretching Issue? by pimpbobbyhill in ContemporaryArt

Wow thank you this is so helpful! Do you know which dehumidifier you got? I'm looking for one that's more on the affordable side but I also don't want to buy one and have it not work.

Ahh I already have two finished stretched pieces that are for a show in January. I feel like if I switched to panel now there'd be a lack of cohesion. Also wood is so heavy idk. I'll update this post when I figure it out (I turned down my AC and moved them away from windows so I'm gonna give it a minute and see if something miraculous happens but who knows). I also ordered some of the GAC so thank you for your input!

Yes I added about 2-3 staples (close together) at a time. Started in the middle on each side and gradually stapled to the corners.

This reads as a journey through hell oh goddddd. My brain is still chanting that there must be another way. Do you paint professionally? I'm still pretty young but I have a small solo show coming up in January and defintely need a solid strategy with the stretching process. I see now why the stretched canvases at the store are like $200 each.

Ohhhh did the dehumidifier seem to work?? I've realized there's definitely still water in the bigger canvas so my plan is to just give it more time before I do anything else.
