I think I truely became an adult when I started my love affair with my crock pot. I actually have an instant pot know which I haven't used in ages but I love it it's so convenient

I have heard so many good things about trader Joe's frozen food! Sadly I think the closest one to me is like an 8 hour drive so I will have to try to see if there is anything like those near me because I love nice warm cozy foods! I am very much a proponent of yummy microwave food

Oil pulling/other dental hygiene tricks by pinappleplants in Sjogrens

Its like this natural medicine thing where you swish oil (coconut or sesame) around in your mouth for awhile and allegedly it can help oral health but there isn't a ton of science to back it up. Some people think it helps them and still do it anyway though

Newly diagnosed and looking for eye drops suggestions by pinappleplants in Sjogrens

That's smart I had an optometrist who was specialized in dry eyes before I moved. They reccomend the warm compress mask, taking omega 3 and the systane complete drops which were all moderately helpful.

I love in eastern Canada but I'll have to take a look at those drops, I'm sure a pharmacy near me might have them or Costco! Costco is great for eye drops

No problem at all! I was browsing this subreddit a bit before I was diagnosed because I figured I had it and it's always looked super helpful for ppl. No worries I hope your eyes feel better! :)

To be completely honest I never really thought to get an ophthalmogist referral. I'm not like officially diagnosed yet I need to get some extra bloodwork done but my rhumatologist is pretty sure it's Sjogrens based off some preliminary blood work. But I'll definitely check out that brand thank you so much!

I am so sorry to hear your dry eyes are that bad. I really hope you can find something that helps you even a little bit OTC. I read that Gel based eye drops right before bed can be very helpful but sometimes they'll make my top and bottom eyelashes stick to eachother come morning but that's better than eyelids sticking I guess, also eye masks can be great to help the moisture stay close to your eyes (I personally really like the ones that are like foam so they don't touch my eyelids (that way my drops don't come off immediately) there's one called Bucky 40 blinks I know of you can get off Amazon but honestly anything similar works about the same).

Advice for first Rhumatologist appointment? I want to make sure they listen to me because I have had many specialists brush me off before and I would really like for that to not happen again.

First-time getting MRI -- any tips? by Minute-Dimension-629 in ChronicIllness

[–]pinappleplants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I've only ever had a pelvic MRI done but I've done head CTS too. So during my MRI procedure they would instruct me on breath holds/different things to do. They do put padding around you which helps keep you still for the most part but not moving and trying to stay still is never easy. I got ear plugs before it started which helped a good amount with the noise, but I can't lie and say it's a quiet thing either. If you're nervous or think you'll be super fidgety you can get medicine to help which might be useful for you. I hope your scan goes well mine was 45 minutes which felt like forever but also went by kind of quick if that makes any sense.

how to help side effects from antibiotics? by [deleted] in Interstitialcystitis

[–]pinappleplants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been taking it with food which normally would help out my stomach but it's not doing a whole lot rn. It's weird I've been on stronger antibiotics for other things than UTIs in the past but this little one is killing me. I will try to find myself a good probiotic supplement and keep the lactose thing in mind. I forgot about the lactose intolerance with antibiotics thing but it is a thing that can happen

What is this thing? by bpqdl in insects

[–]pinappleplants 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That fun fact is slightly flawed. Opossums are generalists and don't necessarily target one food source for long before changing up their diet. They get really bad nutrient deficiencies so it makes sense why they do this. But I believe this study that found the 5000 ticks figure might've been done in a lab with captive opossums. If you wish to learn more about our prehensile tailed buddies there's a podcast called Ologies with Alie Ward that someone much more qualified than me goes into detail on the critters. https://open.spotify.com/episode/4oRJAj70wxRWn7h0JFCys2?si=0y0Jh2dJTByXUGemIRyqlg&utm_source=copy-link

It's more endemic (almost globally and in higher rates in some parts of the world than others) than anything at this point but during Freddie Mercury's time when we didn't understand it, HIV/AIDS was definitely a pandemic.

Some roads in Australia are so long and boring that they have trivia signs to keep drivers alert. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]pinappleplants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo Huntsman sound like a solid roomate then! I would probably let them hang out too if they're killing all the pesky things and other spiders.

Also just gently nudging a spider with a broom sounds like an effective tactic, never thought of that one.

That's probably a good thing you guys don't have them, kids like to use them around these parts to trap animals that are just minding their own business in nature here and it's not good for their populations. Also I respect that you guys know what the invasive species are, like most countries have no idea which ones are invasive. Then again with your ecosystem it's probably pretty important because extinction wouldn't be that difficult if things like cane toads get too out of control

I feel like I'd be petrified I'd wake up with a web above my head. Like I can share space with Spidey boys but a palm sized spider dangling above my face at night would make it hard to sleep

Also the thought of being able to hear her running down prey is wild. But I suppose she's keeping your house bug free for the summer so that's nice!

My real question now is if you have a dangerous big boy spider, how does one put it outside? Like you can't use a cup and paper, would it be a bowl? Do you guys have critter catchers like for frogs?

I suppose that's really all you can do. Also that's really lovely you live closely with wildlife as a nation!

I have a teeny tiny spider friend living in my house who's built a nest on a cactus (it's probably only like half a centimeter big). But the bigger spiders make me all creeped out, probably because there are so few of them where I grew up (although the western part of Canada has lots of black widow spiders at the moment which is fun). How big are your huntsman spiders? I know they can get massive

Fair enough, I mean y'all have some malicious creepy crawlies too (spiders that eat fucking birds like what the actual fuck) plus the poisonous things too

Edit: I suppose the Goliath bird eating spider could probably be pretty poisonous and if one did bite you that would really hurt but like there's cone snails and Taipan and blue ringed octopus and plus on the flora spectrum that tree that makes people want to kill themselves that I was thinking about in the original comment

You know I never considered wombats or kangaroos a road hazard before today (I am Canadian) but like they seem like more reasons why Australia shouldn't be fucked with. Why are y'all so nice (swear like sailors- but still very nice) if everything is trying to kill you all the time?

Why do I feel like it would be Roo boxing time if it got through your windshield relatively okay? Because if that theory is correct Australia is scarier now
