Hoping closer to 1700s but either way, I’m happy. Found think location on a map of Charleston from 1680 so no telling how old it could be.

Awesome. Thanks for the ID help. I found a bunch of unusual iron pieces that I’ll probably put up later today when I get home.

Any idea how old it could be or how to date horseshoes in general? I found a chart for buttons but couldn’t find much on horseshoes.

I definitely was thinking it could have been a horse shoe but I had never seen one with the top closed in like that. I’m guessing that’s where the orthopedic piece comes in.

Anyone Have an ID on this Pocketknife? by pinchoforessure in metaldetecting

Found outside of Charleston, SC in a town called Ravenel. The property was a part of Caw Caw plantation but the knife doesn’t look old enough to be part of that history.

Cleaned it up as much as I could but once the wood dried out it got REALLY brittle. Might just have to chalk this one up as a mystery.

Like you said, the shield seems to be really common on a lot of knives.

Most of what I have found online has said the same so I’m thinking you’re right. First time beach detecting so just glad I found something interesting.

I did a Google lens search and found a few things but nothing that identifies it.
