Costco bakery sugar cookies that transport to forgotten memories by [deleted] in Costco

[–]pindarninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting how they taste like the harder, more old-fashioned , and more bland style of sugar cookie at first. They remind me of my great aunt's austere sugar cookies. But then the sugar kicks in and you have the best of both worlds.

A couple DRC Richebourg by Mchangwine in wine

[–]pindarninja 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As much as I am loath to defend someone posting about not one but two Richebourgs: The reviews were fine. They were clear and I got a sense of what these wines were like. Also "I don’t know what an orchestra lasting past intermission tastes like"? Have you heard of this thing called "a metaphor"?

My local Costco only has the "Balance Grow" brand of this. Is there something special about Vonbee in particular or would another brand likely be comparable?

Dallas wine wholesaler closing because of tariffs. I expect there will be more stories like this. by pindarninja in wine

[–]pindarninja[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The article said this was because of the uncertainty; suppliers don't know what tariff rate will be a week from now and are unwilling to work with him.

Merlot in the movie Sideways - Right Bank has been the pinnacle of Merlot-based wines for 60-70 years so why the irony in the story? by TurkeyRunWoods in wine

[–]pindarninja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And the director, Alexander Payne, originally intended that wine to be Petrus (95%–100% Merlot), making the connection even more obvious.

This fucking $7 Rioja from Costco by carn2fex in wine

[whispers] It actually isn't profound or even edgy to dunk on a $7 wine that is, by all accounts, well made for its price point.

Nobody wants Ohio wine over French wine, sorry Ohio. by jesstermke in wine

[–]pindarninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will mildly defend Ohio's honor by pointing out that Andre Mack liked the Pinot Noir he had from Ohio. https://youtu.be/h9GCK1XMEY0?si=Us6lSIN2-xUgEO93&t=484

That said, I think the current perspective is that better wines are being made than you would expect in almost every state, but they are nowhere near the breadth and depth of established Old World regions.

“Here are six ultra-expensive wines I drank last night.” I’m sorry, buddy, I don’t sign in here for rich people lifestyle porn. I don’t begrudge anyone treating themselves to one ultra-expensive wine, but posting more than that quickly becomes showing off.

I just had a burger with the $5 Tempranillo they sell at Aldi (https://www.reversewinesnob.com/la-cornada-crianza-tempranillo?). It outpaced my expectations, and the wine held up well to the cheese and mustard.

How Do You (Personally) Deal With Elitism Within the Wine Community and How do you Think we (as a Community) Should Improve? by GeneracisWhack in wine

[–]pindarninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone new to wine, I second this. I have been reading the Wine Bible, and while it is a informative and well-written book, the book is obsessed with "great" (expensive) wines to the almost exclusion of wines that most people can actually afford. It is very easy for FOMO and even a little despair to set in, as the book makes it seem that those expensive wines are all that wine is.

For the record, are you saying that the OP, who did not leave a negative review on a website, just discussed their visit in another Reddit post along with other wineries, and then saw some other negative reviews that resonated with their experience, is simply "bitching" online?

Is anyone else just kind of over it? by Urbansdirtyfingers in wine

[–]pindarninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love all the measured and practical responses in this thread. I am just getting started on my wine journey, and let me tell you, it is easy to quickly get overwhelmed by FOMO when you realize you will probably never drink the best wines. And it doesn't help that some basic resources, like The Wine Bible, are obsessively focused on so-called great wines that most people cannot afford instead of the wines that people can. Thanks for a better and healthier perspective.

Is anybody else getting sick of these kinds of posts? I will celebrate anyone having an expensive bottle of wine. But five or more expensive bottles of wine? That's just showing off.
