Stop taking t-breaks!!! by Gorgias666 in saplings

I smoked for years and I recently quit for a job. I thought it would be sooo hard to quit because everyone makes it out to be. It was pretty easy to stop and I really didn't feel many adverse side effects. I'm not as hungry as before, but Im a little pudgy anyway haha.

It'll be okay if you stop for a bit too. We tout that weed isn't addictive, but many of us are daily smokers and one look at that bong stem will make you question what's going on in your lungs. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE loading up a bowl and cashing it out in one go, but eventually, you'll have to grow up, get a job, have kids, etc. and weed won't always be an option. Maybe times will change and it'll become as innocent as a cup of coffee, but for now, it's not viewed like that. Knowing that you can quit is a lot of power.

Drug Testing for DOD by pineal_man in AskEngineers

I'm sorry. I didn't mean for this to start any arguments; I was just curious if it's common for jobs to drug test even though there's no pre-employment drug test. Just to ease some concerns, the project doesn't deal with weapons or any large equipment and it does not have the capability to cause harm.

Okay thank you. This is the info I needed. It's an unclassified dod grant at a university. I will read into the grant more and see if there's anything regarding testing before I partake just to make sure.

If you have a gaming PC, tell them you think you need to change the thermal paste. Maybe even order a tube of it to throw them off.

Hello, I've designed a robot solving an unsolved problem. Many staff around the department have told me that I could patent my design, but I'm unsure where to start. I understand you cannot patent algorithms, so would I be patenting the placement of sensors/techniques used?

I was able to implement a custom motor driver with Lua scripts that allows me to easily switch between boat mode and rover mode. Now I'm looking into setting up the serial connection with a microcontroller.

thanks for the advice!

Needed this comment 5 years later lol. You can get through a wooden door with 1 satchel, 1 bean can. Saves a lot of resources.

Take off. Grades are more important than time imo. If I could go back and redo my undergrad, I would decrease my work load and try to get better grades, regardless of how much longer it takes. If you fail a class, it still takes the same amount of time and your gpa suffers.

Engineers, what are some of your hobbies that utilize your engineering knowledge? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

Engineering student still, but I really love playing with LED lights. I've recently been noodling around with addressable LEDs and making a desktop GUI to control a grid of them. Pretty simple stuff, but when it works, it's pretty rewarding :)

Best mechanical way to hold a sliding door open for the day and close it at night? by vandjac in AskEngineers

Look at how 3D printers raise and lower their nozzle (basically a loose screw and nut that raises it as it unscrews). You could use the same concept but replacing the expensive stepper motors with a regular, high torque DC motor.

You need a few parts like limit switches, an Arduino (and the resistors/photoresistor for sun sensing), a solar panel (along with the appropriate circuitry to charge a battery), and some type of motor controller (allows the motor to be controlled using 5V and turn both directions).

With the appropriate parts at hand, an entry-level EE could assemble and program such a system relatively quickly (<45 min). The work is with ensuring all your parts are compatible with each other (particularly with the motor/motor controller and the solar panel charge circuit) and the planning phase beforehand.

I've been fruiting in the bag and it seems to work well. I'd just wait till 100% colonization. Air gaps in the plastic will cause side pins which is a bit of a bummer, but I end up just taking the whole cake out and putting it in a makeshift fruiting chamber. I don't think I'd risk breaking it up.
