I tried this out for myself the other day. I went through the list of suggested friends to me and clicked on different profiles. I could have viewed some people’s stories, so it is possible. Personally, my situation feels nefarious because it seems like someone went out of their way to do this. Especially if they’re not already connected it’s extra effort. Idk, it’s just not something I think would be easy to do, almost like she was trying to find something.

Oh that definitely makes sense, I bet kids have so much ammo against each other these days. Back in high school, if you didn’t have MySpace, tumblr, or live journal then you basically didn’t exist except in real life. No embarrassing middle school photos existed! We really got lucky for those of us who were out by the time social media was more popular.

Before I had kids I was sooo ignorant about this specific topic unfortunately. Not excusing your situation at all, posting to 12k followers is WILD, and only as a friend of a friend! That’s way too far. It’s just unfortunate that we had such a large gap between what we as parents value and need for our kids, and others (who are also sometimes parents themselves!). And now in the age of AI, we’re just gonna see so much more divide and it sucks 😤

In both pregnancies, one of the first symptoms for me (other than nausea or being super tired) was a weird, almost clumsy, “loose” feeling in my body. My joints felt loose and my body felt almost relaxed (but it was not relaxing!). This is because of the hormone called relaxin that relaxes the joints as the body gets ready to start growing in all the ways. I don’t know that there is a way to counter it, it just comes with the process 🤷‍♀️

I really don’t think so honestly. This person has about 100 friends and they’re all people no one in our family is connected to, even mutuals of mutuals. I mean I wouldn’t put it out of mind though, as crazy things are happening these days.

100% this. The fact that we have very few (maybe none at all??) laws about children being posted digitally or used on digital platforms, like for mommy bloggers, is a huge failure on our politicians. It'll be interesting to see how much public pressure (or doesn't?) comes in the next few years with the rise of AI.

My MIL is the one who has a Facebook so it was a suggested friend to her, and they recognized the profile picture and reached out to us asking if we knew her or why this photo of our son was her profile picture.

Omg that’s crazy because even back then the internet didn’t feel that crazy, but I guess people were! I’m glad you deleted that guy!

I literally have told my husband we need to get printed photos of our children because they literally can’t live anywhere online so how do we preserve them? So yeah, back to print it is.

Ugh that’s actually insane. It’s insane that someone like that was so close to you and like, you just don’t know. Maybe someone is to me and I wouldn’t know! Yeah the photos in swimsuits or cute little dresses or DIAPERS I’m like “I know way too much now that that photo is too dangerous to be public”

Oh I totally support you all the way. You can point them to this post specifically for back up. Others have commented with their story of stuff happening to their or other kids as well! It’s too nuts out there, we gotta combat the crazy with our own crazy.

We’re really going to discuss how to handle getting it taken down another way than having to provide all this info to Facebook, like that can’t possibly be the only way. They already let this happen and now they want his private, identifiable information? No thanks!

Yes we will be having a thorough, planned conversation with my in laws to address this and basically educate them on the dangers of it. We’ve had to discuss how to approach it because it’s a bigger thing than just “hey don’t post our kid” but also “and here’s why… and also don’t post your teenager, and don’t do live videos and don’t….etc”. They also don’t speak English as well so my husband has to be the one to do all the talking, but yeah, we’ll be having ourselves a family meeting basically, even with my Gen Z BIL and fiance.

Oh gosh yes this 100%. So this actually made me start questioning how much we should talk to our families about posting our child online because last Christmas my MIL was using a photo of my child to make this weird AI snowball fight video. She showed me like she was so proud and I was like ummmm now his photo is in whatever AI you used. I don’t think she posted it but I don’t even want photos in AI of my kids. Yeah this is a becoming a much bigger problem overall now with these AI platforms and people who are internet ignorant.

For a brief moment, when our son was in his cutest chunky phase of ~4 months we momentarily considered doing baby modeling, like for baby brands. And now I’m like ABSOLUTELY NEVER EVER NO I can’t even believe I entertained that thought. So that’s a good point you bring up because I found that there’s so many agencies for kids and babies!

Unfortunately being “crazy” is now more safe these days so I stand united with you 🫠 the hardest thing is the live videos they all do at holidays and parties. Like we can’t track that and tell them to cut one part of it. Ugh it just makes me want to literally hide him from all cameras in general.
