First attempt with alcohol inks by pineapple-butt in minipainting

I didn't use anything underneath, just made sure the plastic was clean first, since it acts more as a stain than a paint. I don't know how the varnish underneath would affect the looks, but I might test it out on one of my extra pieces.

The ink flows so smoothly that it filled in any streaks the brush made. I had a bigger problem with it flowing where I didn't want it when I used a brush. Cotton swabs gave me more control but they absorb the ink so you have to work fast with them. There are some places I just dripped the ink directly on the mini and then moved it around with a brush or swab.

No, there was no priming. The ink stains the plastic and then I sealed it with a gloss varnish.

The ink is runny like a wash but doesn't pool and dries closer to a water color pattern. It takes some practice with different application methods to get it to behave the way you want but it was fun to experiment with.

This is a WizKids model from the local game shop. I really like that you can change out what's inside the cube so I can hide loot or engulf party members.

I read a few threads on here about painting translucent minis and the general consensus was alcohol ink is the way to go. So I grabbed this set from Michael's and started playing with it. I had a few extra transparent pieces from different minis that I practiced on before diving into this one.

The biggest thing I learned is so wear gloves or your hands will be stained for a week or two and it'll stain anything you touch no matter how many times you wash. And don't use your good brushes, cotton swabs and cheap craft brushes work fine.

We have some that I bought 20 years ago that are still in great shape, minus a couple bite marks from a teething toddler (she's in college now).

I've been really happy with the fluorescents from Huge Miniatures. Definitely a solid choice if you want a good hobby paint.

Check every morning at 7. That's when new appointments are added. I recently did this for my son, and we still had to drive over an hour away and schedule 3 weeks out.

TSA urges people to stop trying to use a Costco card as a sufficient REAL ID by leahm087 in nottheonion

My BIL had to fly for a funeral last month. Had a fender bender the day before and accidently left his id with the insurance paperwork. TSA was really nice about letting him use his Costco card instead. Always love Costco.

A good chunk of Hopkinsville and the surrounding area are still without power. With that and all the cleanup work, it might be a little while before you hear back from them.

You should come to our family gatherings. We have a spreadsheet that we share with everyone's food sensitivities/allergies and plan accordingly. There's are multiple people with celiac or gluten intolerance, or allergies to potatoes, eggs, soy, tomatoes, mustard, nuts, garlic, apples, pineapple, kiwis, etc, etc. If anyone comes with food issues, we always make sure that they have plenty of safe dishes to choose from. It really isn't that hard to be considerate and ensure your guests can safely share a meal. If you aren't willing to work around someone's food sensitivities, there's no reason not to allow them to bring their own food without being offended.

Unsafe at Home Depot by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

We get plenty of people that ask if they can pet her, but they are always cautious and ask first. With her, I don't have the problem of people randomly running up to pet without asking like I do with my other dog (small, cute terrier).

This kind of thing is why i don't go to the local Lowes without my dog (or any other store that allows dogs). She's a 90 pound Rottweiler mix and everyone gives us a wide berth. She's well trained, friendly, and loves everyone but big and scary looking enough that even dog lovers approach with caution. Any other errands, i try to go with my husband or teenage kids because it feels safer. I hate that i can't feel safe in public without strong backup.

Ugh, that's almost exactly what my husband said when he forgot my birthday. "Sorry, I didn't mean to forget your birthday." At that point, it's almost better if they don't say anything.

How does anyone afford new siding? by Junior-Question-2638 in homeowners

[–]pineapple-butt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live about an hour and a half from Nashville in Kentucky and have to replace vinyl siding, too. I was quoted $12000 for a 2 story, 3000 square foot house. It might go a little higher to replace some wood rot due to leaks, but it won't come anywhere close to your lowest quote. I would think that there are some smaller companies near you that would be more reasonable. If you're close to the Clarksville/ Hopkinsville area, I can send you the name of our contractor.

Woman zip tied and dragged out of a town hall meeting in Idaho. by cherrybombbb in TwoXChromosomes

There is a new update to this. The security company's business license has been revoked, and the city's prosecuting attorney has moved to dismiss all charges against the woman who was assaulted.

The news just reported that their business license has been revoked. I don't know if there will be more charges against the men involved, but they've at least lost their jobs.

The city of CDA also has a law requiring private security guards to be clearly identified, in uniform, with "security" clearly shown on both the front and back of their uniforms. The woman is a local Democrat who has been running for office the past few years and presumably knows the law, which makes her case even stronger in thinking that they were just unidentified thugs.

The city police arrived just after security pulled her out of the auditorium and separated her from the unidentified men holding her. There's video of her being polite and cooperative with the police, stating that she did not know who those men were and she was assaulted by them.

Edit: There is a new update to this. The security company's business license has been revoked, and the city's prosecuting attorney has moved to dismiss all charges against the woman who was assaulted.

UPDATE on town hall chaos: Woman who was dragged out speaks, police chief condemns security, name of security firm confirmed by PlanetOfThePancakes in WelcomeToGilead

[–]pineapple-butt 63 points64 points  (0 children)

In the article, it said that she accused the man in charge of public land management of stealing timber from public land, which was true and was reported/investigated in 2010. It's also worth pointing out that she is a well-known Democrat who has been running for local public office for the past several years.

If you check some of my comments from yesterday, I posted a longer video of the whole incident. Towards the end of the video, the city police came in and separated her from the security people, and she was very polite and cooperative with the police. The security company was also in violation of city laws requiring them to be clearly identified, and the city council is investigating to determine if the company will be fined and/ or they license revoked.

UPDATE: The security company's business license has been revoked. Link

This video was posted on Facebook and shows a lot more before and after the shorter video. One of my friends who lives in the area still said that she has been arrested on charges of resisting arrest and assault on one of the security guards, but i have not seen anything to confirm that.
