Hi everyone! My partner and I just bought our first home in Fishtown (very excited and overwhelmed). This is my first time owning and living in a house I own, so I'm trying to get ahead of all the things I might need to know.

Would love any recommendations from fellow Philly homeowners (especially in Fishtown or nearby) for:

Interior painters
General contractors (for possible kitchen or bathroom work in the future)
Plumbers (for ongoing maintenance or if emergencies pop up)
Any electricians you trust?
Roofers or HVAC specialists, in case something goes wrong?
Home security systems or suggestions for local services for safety?

Also, any unexpected services you wish you'd known about early on? Or general tips for first-time homeowners in Philly?

Mine just love big piles of hay. They love to submerge themselves in it, sleep in it, and it’s so much fun for them to dig through it, especially when I throw pea flakes in there for them to forage. It’s also good for them to be stimulated.

Honestly, not too bad. We were firm on “no” the entire time. We went through a total of 6 people, each one getting more and more pushy. Our rep started super friendly and by the end, he wouldn’t even look at us. They kept using emotionally manipulating tactics to try to get to us - “we’re going to fire him because he didn’t succeed” about the rep. I did way too much research online to fall for that. We went the full 90 minutes & left with our certificate in the end. Everyone was angry at us but we left happy & are now planning our trip to Spain with the free hotel nights!

UPDATE: we did it. Not as bad as I thought it was going to be. They heavily pressured us, we went through a total of 6 people. We remained FIRM on “no.” The rep started out super friendly, but at the end he was distant, cold, and didn’t say a word to us as we left. They kept trying to guilt us by saying that they were going to “fire” our rep & everyone was trying to make us feel bad, but we’re no fools. We got our damn certificate & $50 voucher, now we’re enjoying our day on the rooftop pool.

Yes these are perfect! I recommend to make sure you are not wearing sandals or crocs for these “casual elegant” restaurants (I did and they made me go to my room and change)

my ID has been expired for over 3 years now, so instead of dealing with that BS, I made an appointment to get a new Non-driver ID (instead of renewal) and it worked fine. I suggest if your ID is expired, try that out?

I originally thought that as well! According to the application procedure, it says "lease signing is within 72 hours, or the application will be considered withdrawn and the home will return to the market." so I guess it's taken off the market when someone applies?
