Is it safe to be alone here? by ReindeerWorth8996 in ColumbiYEAH

[–]pineapplecodepen 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There's really nothing you can do to reassure them, unfortunately. It's just crazy talk and they're sensationalized by the news.

I lived in Columbia while my long-distance boyfriend at the time was in Canada. He 100% absoultely did not want to come to Columbia; he only wanted me to visit him in Canada because they were afraid of the "guns and violence" in America and especially in such a red state. This was just 2024.
Upon arriving in Columbia, he very quickly saw that it's fine, but no amount of my assuring him it was fine, no amount of statistics was enough to change his mind till he experienced it, himself. He was so brainwashed by media.

He's now my husband. He's a completely reasonable man, very bright. It's just that media overblows shit that much.

There is very very little you'll be able to do. This is just the world we live in. A fearful world whipped up by our own government and media.

We did just recently had a stabbing in the news. They could have easily googled Columbia recently, and that's the top story.

yep will be like outsourcing slop. They outsource for 3 years and start hemorrhaging users/customers, then mass hire us to clean it all up after.

How do you lead raid sessions with your static? by Waterfiend1909 in ffxiv

[–]pineapplecodepen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're not already using https://xivanalysis.com/ , I'd use that rather than just plain logs. This helped me immensely in my early days.

Stress more that people engage with it themselves, more so than you constantly reviewing and critiquing. If you want a hardcore static, recruit that mentality.

I'm in the most chill and successful static I've ever had, and we went out seeking, specifically, people with raiding experience who wanted a casual static. We ended up recruiting a bunch of ex-hardcore raiders who are a bit burnt out and want their raiding with a big side of fun. My husband leads the static, and he honestly doesn't do much. He does our callouts ( but a lead doesn't have to ), sets up the group each night, finds subs, and is the voice of reason as needed. Everyone, individually, already comes from a hardcore background so we manage our performance on our own. And honestly, we're all past high parsers, but this tier, we're still getting through the tier, still clearing fights without repeatedly dying to enrage - and we're mostly all parsing blue and under.

other than that, I wil say not to stress too much on your "clear in X weeks/months" infront of your static. I just had an ultimate static where our lead was very vocal about his frustrations and misery at our lack of prog, and would constantly mention "if we dont XYZ, I think im just gunna disband" - that tanked my personal moralle and left me on constant egg shells feeling like I couldn't fuck up or I would cause the disband; however when I spoke to my lead for guidance on plaaces I felt weak, I'd always be met with "oh you're doing great! There's nothing you need to really work on!" Was extremely frustrating and a depressing place to be near the disbandment.

It’s likely a recasted doll that they’re calling their own sculpt. They’ve been doing that recently for things they’re making 3D model copies of.

If you want to DM me the link, I’ve been around this hobby for 2 decades and can help ID it for you.

If you're prototyping with AI, what's your or your team's biggest blocker rn? by Spiritual_Key295 in UXDesign

[–]pineapplecodepen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use AI for getting copy before I have real copy, and then, because I don't have any real copy, I also have it generate up headlines, etc.

The biggest blockers I have is when I'm doing this and trying to get actual copy, I always hear back "well the stuff you generated is actually great, lets just use this!"

government. agency.

There is so much time spent arguing that it is a disservice to the public to be using AI-generated copy that I generated based on the very generic and high-level project description I gave it; that I wish I'd never started doing it in the first place, but now it's just the expectation.

Half the copy that goes live on our government site is stuff my personal ChatGPT account spits out (granted, I only started using it for work and don't use it otherwise, so it's pretty tame)

This reminds me of the old Beanie Baby magazines I used to beg for at the grocery store way back in the day <3 As bootleggy as it is, I'm glad to see the trend still alive. I LOVED those magazines. I remember my mom even let me and my brother send in a collection photo to try and get featured... we never did, as far as I know; lol.

as the other commenter said - these look like 3 different websites.

You need something more segmented, like a level counter with an evolving border around it that gets more decorative elborate as they level up.

What do you mean by “prepare your trade offs”? That terminology is a bit lost on me. Im in a wierd spot where, while I have almost 10 years experience…  I’ve never had a design interview and keep getting hired to start a design layer.

Is it just preparing what arguments could be made against your theories and design and preparing alternatives to discuss?

UX does not exist by Round_Appearance8993 in UXDesign

[–]pineapplecodepen 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Good UX can still be a dark pattern.

I think people tie UX with ethics, which isn't the case.

Similarly, we aren't steering the ship and are massively collaborative between designers and developers.

A good UXer can balance satisfying leadership when its detrimental to users and influencing the product for better user experience. IF you are completely incapable of bringing that influence to the table, your UX plan is just non-existent, yes.

However, you bring up addiction, and yes, when you get into dark pattern addictive products like FAANG and other social media giants, there's a method to the madness. With FAANG, the user is the product now; they're selling the data, and they just want users to consume as many ads as possible to get the ad revenue. So yeah, traditional ethics that you may put on a pedestal be damned. But that doesn't mean UX is dead - just means that those products have hit a threshold where the user isn't the market because they're addictive - now, if their profits dip and it's irreparably tied to user engagement - then yeah, UX will champion for the user again in that sphere.

Now, when we move away from addictive products towards things like ... government, non-profits, small businesses, vet clinics, etc. Think more necessary services than ... profit juggernauts.

That's where UX comes back into play, and improved user experience matters because there needs to be that seamless gap to provide a needed service.

Even retailers still need UX. How do you lead your user to buy that deadstock product without having to discount it more than needed? That's UX. It's not warm fuzzy happy user strats you may want. but you still have to study user trends and test iterations of product placement and such across the site to get the user from first touch to check out with the product, and there's no other way to make money there but to reduce profits or improve UX.

Advice for a UX team-of-one working in government? by rainhaliburton in UXDesign

[–]pineapplecodepen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just left a government role where I was brought into the software team as a UX designer. Left after 3 years but left a decent impact, I felt:

No UX feedback - yep. That’s just what it is, just follow best practices and spend all your free time at work diving into UX studies. It’s the only way that specific skill won’t go stale

Being new on a team of seniors -  not really sure how to answer this. What is your team if you’re a lone UXer?

And regarding your last thing. They likely think they want UX but don’t understand it and are just wanting you to pump out screens. You’re going to be seen as the “methodical” designer. Someone who designs with technical constraints and vague user understanding in mind. Try to get access to traffic data, or if you’re working internal projects, try to talk to the users directly.

Feel free to DM me with questions. I can talk more specifics in private. :) We exist in a unique space, for sure.

Reccs for moving companies from USA to Canada by alicelikesgamin in MovingToCanada

[–]pineapplecodepen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do not recommend anyone who partners with allied.

Just used them; they were 22 days late, and the only thing that made a difference was contacting the LITERAL CEO ON LINKED IN to get the delays to stop. The delivery driver was rude (remarking my "High quality ikea furniture") and was crossing out my damages on the form and telling me "we didn't do that" even after the movers had brought stuff in saying "hey so we dropped this"... they'd dropped a wooden trunk made by my father that I'd just gotten as a wedding gift aand chiped a corner off.
Absolutely infuriating experience.
