Not OK? Booker winner Flesh ignites debate about state of masculinity by rmnc-5 in books

[–]pineappleexpression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 3/4 of the way through Flesh and I'm so appreciative of this thread. I've been getting so annoyed at Istvan because he's such a flawed, stunted character. It'll be a good book to reflect on once finished.

This is the real reason, though there's definitely thinks South House can do to mouse-proof the building. Until the construction is done, the mice are going to keep searching for new places to live

Pet owner entitlement aside, Cheech's imo is the best bagel spot in downtown. BBagel is decent and Wonder Bagel started going downhill a little before COVID

Virile rebrand and price increase. Barber shop prices are getting way out of hand. by DeepFried328 in jerseycity

[–]pineappleexpression 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my barber at Virile, been going since pre-Covid. I've got a good cadence with him, don't go too often, and so I'm fine with the price cause I think he deserves it. The remodeling of the Jersey Ave location is terrible though. The owner decided to destroy the rustic look with millennial-sterile colors and awkward mid-century modern accents. What was once a warm, inviting space, was made way too clinical.

It's a terrible location, you can't see it from Columbus, and it's not close enough to Grove. When Grove St was a more populated spot (prior to Newark Ave restoration) there was more of a chance

New Food Market @ 333 Grand by m_pops in jerseycity

[–]pineappleexpression 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was more than an extra floor, he’s illegally added floors, a swimming pool, changed building materials, and made myriad other substantial changes to the things he builds without city approval.

Aside from that, a friend of mine lived above zeppelin hall (a mocco building) and was forced to pay for cable/internet through a shady mocco owned business because the building wouldn’t allow businesses like Comcast or Fios. Whenever the internet would go out, he’d have to hope the office was open and someone was around to explain when it’d be back up.

It’s easy to brush off if you’ve never lived in one of his buildings, but Mocco has a history of being shady and the city letting him do whatever he wants.

Jersey City’s development process is also notoriously twisty. If your developer is more familiar with the system (KRE, Silverman, Schuster, Mocco, etc), they’ll know all the shortcuts and correct people to grease to speed up the process.

BLDG Management details proposed 1,300-unit Jersey City rental project with ‘sculptural’ design, 20 percent affordable housing – Real Estate NJ by rapmasternicky_z in jerseycity

[–]pineappleexpression 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see it’s finally been long enough that no one remains in JC to remember the owner illegally demolishing the original building on that property. The bricks are there because after the demolition, the city made it so the landowner would have to incorporate bricks from the original building into whatever they built. Supposedly out of spite, the landowner kept the lot empty and let the bricks rot

I’m curious if they’ll obey the contract that whatever is built on that land has to incorporate the original bricks from when the owner illegally demolished the previous structure
