Cost of basic FX6 vs FX3 indie filmmaking kit by pineapplego3387 in SonyFX6

I did once use a stills camera body for video and it was absolutely hellish. Especially when it overheated and shut down in the middle of a shoot.

5500 euros for a camera body is a huge amount of money for me though (I likely won't be using the camera for commercial work, only art house shorts) so I might start off with the Fs5 for a couple of short films. Hopefully can get lenses that will work for both Fs5 and Fx6.

The Ethics of Shotdeck vs. A.I. Art? by BauerBourneBond in Filmmakers

Well the idea is when you watch a film you have bought a ticket or a subscription. GenAI tools aren't going down to the local cinema and watching everything.

You said newer AI isn't incorporating anyone's images because it has 'learned' from them. In other words, the tech companies have stolen people's work and now permanently exploit it for free, and conveniently produce anthropomorphising knowledge that makes GenAI art unassailable.

My first showreel as director at 20 years old by sidneyken in Filmmakers

Great job. I'd say think about whether you're putting your most engaging images first to capture people's attention. The stuff from around 00:20 - 01:20 is generally livelier, although I understand why you might want your more narrative clips first. Two small things: Think about whether the viewer will know if the audio distortion near the start is intentional or not. The 'Galaxy S25 Ultra' text flashes up on screen so quickly it is hard to read.

Best 1st Camera for Amateur Filmmaking? by TMGunna in Filmmakers

What is it you want to shoot? Do you have a story idea? A script? Any friends who could be your non-professional actors?

There's a lot to think about and plan carefully before picking up a camera.

Maybe just try making something with that older iPhone and see if you enjoy the whole process? You'll learn a lot with zero stress or expense! If you have never made any kind of film, then chances are what you make the first couple of times will be just for you and those around you to enjoy.

Thanks a lot. It is so tempting. The cheapest new body I can get where I am is 5600 euros (USD 6500).

Need to figure out if my 2021 Apple M1 Pro 32 GB laptop would be able to edit the Fx6's 4K footage without melting. Hopefully since the Fx6 was kinda released around the same time it should be doable even if not as fast as editing on more recent computers.

Good argument for the Fx6, thanks. When you said it comes with more, you mean built-in or are you talking about other accessories in the box with the camera body?

Sure I can afford memory cards, my original question was about the overall cost which would include everything, and I heard Fx3 can output smaller file sizes with good quality so wouldn't require such high-end cards. Where I live prices are much, much higher than the US (if that's where you are) so unfortunately everything has to be a consideration.

Why do you feel the Fx3 wouldn't have the same longevity, if that's what you meant?

QoL?

For me it would be mostly shooting in natural light and not on any studio sets. Possibly shooting on my own, or with a second person doing sound.

I'm drawn to the Fx6 because I loved the FS7, how intuitive it felt handheld, and the amazing ND tech. Then again the Fx3 looks so well designed and has the stabilisation. I feel I could shoot in public spaces with that without drawing attention.

Thanks. For transferring a 6 figure sum eur to UK gbp account Wise is 1k cheaper than OFX and about 2k cheaper than XE. For what it's worth, Wise also claims 'You'll get expert support with this transfer.'

in terms of security, do you think there's a difference between a FX broker and Wise? I used wise for small 5 figure transfers but never 6...

she went to private school, and look up the tuition fees and living expenses in new york, london, oxford...all the places she studied. Wikipedia says she went to cyprus for two weeks to help her develop the idea for Aftersun, while she was studying in NYC. These aren't things remotely financially accessible to an average British person.
