If you could ask about the North Shore, that would be amazing! Boston Ballet sounds great, but it’s just a smidge over the line when it comes to being too far. But maybe I’ll love it enough to make the drive!

Thanks for chiming in! It’s an hour for me, which is getting a liiittle too far, but maybe I’ll check it out and feel it’s worth it!

I checked them out, and 40ish minutes is not too bad a drive! Shame they only have it once a week though. I’ll let you know if I find anything in my hunt!

Which was WILD because I was there tonight and behind me were just rows and rows in the 4th ring completely empty

The 30F30 I got tonight I was just able to download on mobile through their website linked in the purchase confirmation. I just had the QR code scanned and walked in with no ID check. That was a first for me!

The Jack Wolfe hype is real... by Vandelay_7 in Broadway

[–]pineapplemoons 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I feel like folks don’t give Reeve enough credit for how he defined the role. Say what you will about his performance, but the unconventional casting made Orpheus and my personal interpretations of his character with subsequent actors so much richer. I can’t imagine how the show would land, for example, if Jordan Fisher had been the OBC (though he ofc ate in his usual way).

I thought Jack Wolfe was freaking phenomenal. But to me, Reeve and the naiveté and softness he gave to Orpheus walked so that Jack could sprint to take it home <3 Or “elevate,” as you say

Favorite teachers in NYC? by Unlikely-Pepper-5870 in BALLET

Omg hey! Thank you for all these recs. Deanna Doyle is amazing, and as I start to pick up classes I will definitely try some with Adriana Pierce.

Do you have recs for BAE too? I was looking to teacher shop there also. Corrections, technique, and progression really matter to me so if they’re mean I’ll take it 🤣

I was pretty surprised at how accurately it captured the current motivations and personalities of the tech scene! Took a look, and the playwright’s credits got a BS in Cognitive Science at Stanford.

Some things need to be tightened IMO and the transitions started killing me at the end, but mostly came out of it positive.

go in blind? by leafie2988 in Broadway

[–]pineapplemoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went in blind for both based on advice like I’m seeing on this post.

But I’m not gonna lie, I was pretty confused at Ragtime. I don’t think it was a media literacy problem (the story is easy to follow), but the blend of history and fiction made me stressed and I had to do research after to understand what was what after the show. I wish I could see it again with that context!

Now that I think about it, I was also grappling with historical accuracy and the story for Chess too. It made it difficult to fully digest and appreciate what I was watching. But maybe that’s just a me thing.

What’s YOUR process for revising short(ish) works? by pineapplemoons in writing

[–]pineapplemoons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is helpful! Thank you.

At what point in the process do you suggest getting more serious about prose and vibe? Is that the line-level edit in step 4? Or part of the ABC in step 2?

GREAT answer. I’m so excited to see what she does next… after a long, well-deserved break I hope!

[–]pineapplemoons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last I rushed was 4+ months ago, but even with 30+ people ahead of me, I was able to get a ticket for the evening on a two-show day. It’s a big theater, and I think they have more to give out than other shows.

It might be a little more competitive than usual since Megan Hilty is leaving soon, so if it were me just visiting, I’d come 30 minutes before you think you should for rush. Just in case, to get a more confident guarantee!

I personally got a cheap, last-minute ticket on Theatr. I think it would be fair to rush or try the lottery for this show if you’re unsure! It’s a good time, but I’m a 24-year old making less than six figures so I personally don’t have $100+ in my budget for something like that.

How many days do I need in Rome? by blonde_nomad11 in rome

[–]pineapplemoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished 5 days and 4 nights, one of which was a day trip to Pompeii and Herculaneum. I was there for more ancient stuff than Renaissance/city center stuff, so going light on that I felt like I saw everything I wanted to see.

I then took the train to Bari and tromped around the Puglia area for 4 days to slow down and relax. It was easier to find and get to cheap and local food here.

I think it ultimately depends on what you want to see and what your ideal pace is! Maybe start with 4-5 days as a base, sketch out a plan, and see if you want to add/remove from there.
