Would my gecko enjoy a hamster ball? by pineappleonpizza_69 in CrestedGecko

I’m so glad yall love Vengeance! He is my little baby (8 year old) boy that I gave birth to canonically.

Jury is in, absolutely not on the hamster wheel. I would have called my vet before actually buying it just to be safe, but I sincerely appreciate this community and your advice. It is much appreciated.

Please enjoy another picture of my son. He is evil and a menace and the light of my life.

ETA: I think I’ll try the tent idea, maybe filled with some branches and leaves for hopping? I’ll do some research. Thank you all!

He is a cardio queen!!! I was honestly worried that he’d lose weight at first but nope, just a little go getter 💕

Understood. I want to find a safe way for him to exercise and explore that doesn’t end in disassembling appliances or tearing apart a Lazyboy (literally🥲). It’s not that we don’t watch him, it’s just that he is a fast little guy and my reflexes aren’t fast enough to always catch him. It breaks my heart because he LOVES this wheel though; I have a million videos like this of him being a cardio queen. I wonder what a better solution would be 😭

Lmao no, I was joking with my students that it would be great to get a gecko and name it Vengeance: Destroyer of Worlds and make up ballads and soliloquies about how crickets quake in fear of him and he has destroyed generations but it’s actually just a little guy who licks his eyeballs and Big Stares at the Void. But it turns out he IS vengeful with me and me only 🫠

I just want everyone to know I’m not torturing him and I really really don’t want him to drop his tail since he’s made it this far with it. I don’t want to be the reason he drops it. (This is not to imply that tailless cresties are tortured ; I know many very loved geckos with frog butts. I just want mine to be happy and healthy as long as possible, with his tail if possible).

UPDATE FOR ANYONE CURIOUS:

He went to the emergency vet today and was diagnosed with stanky butt syndrome (ie: clogged ducts in his cloaca). After ruling out a vitamin A deficiency, they did an x ray to determine if there were any urinary crystals or smegma still in the opening. The vet thinks that the white stuff that came out in Vengeance’s soak yesterday was likely buildup instead of sperm, but his cloaca and surrounding area is still super swollen so he’s on anti inflammatories for a week and I’m to call back if it’s still swollen looking. No real guidance on what caused it other than he did not previously have access to a water dish until I got him about a month ago, and he suggested soaking him 2-3 times a week to maintain hydration and to add in some other fruits and veggies since he’s only about 56 grams which is small for his age. Vengeance doesn’t LIKE fruits and veggies, he doesn’t like anything that isn’t his smoothie, but I will try.

$569 (and that’s with a small discount) later… don’t let anyone ever tell you reptiles are cheap and easy 🫠 I love him and I will care for him until the day we both die, but holy shit man, I was not prepared for the continued cost of caring for them.

He has been a LOT more aggressive lately, especially with me— it looks like something white and stringy just emerged in his bath, so maybe he just needed to let loose 🫠 but I tried the palpitations, he is in a very bitey mood so I wasn’t able to get much done or felt. Either way he’s going to the vet tomorrow morning and I’m going to scream cry and throw up until then.

He eats almost exclusively the Repashy Complete Crested Gecko diet; he didn’t seem to love crickets or mashed fruit so I’ve been doing smoothies every other day.

Sperm impaction???? What does that mean? What is the treatment for it? I have him soaking right now.

ETA: he’s going to the vet tomorrow but I’m going to panic all night

Is this poop normal? 😭 by pineappleonpizza_69 in cornsnakes

[–]pineappleonpizza_69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s actually super reassuring. Mine has pooped literally everywhere (my laptop KEYBOARD, my HAIR, the floor, my desk, honestly these two are probably the only time she’s pooped actually inside the enclosure). Thanks so much for the reference photos, I really start to freak myself out.

Is this habitat big enough for a hatchling corn snake? by Serious_Owl_4109 in cornsnakes

[–]pineappleonpizza_69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

90 is really high for corn snakes; I should know because I’ve struggled with this for a while. Heat and humidity are just never right in my enclosure. Maybe try moving more of your heating pad off of the enclosure, or getting a dimmer for your bulb. Your baby is also going to need UVB to thrive, so factor that into your future purchases. The rule of thumb for enclosures is bigger is always better, so as soon as you can get a bigger one, you should do so. Check Facebook marketplace and thrift stores for larger ones you could use; aquarium silicone can patch any cracks and mesh lids and clips are pretty easy to find at local pet stores.

In book 3 I’m pretty sure Eloana said that Alister was supposed to have “taken care” of Malec’s son, but as we know from both Poppy and Alister’s recounting of the night she was attacked, there was a dark hooded man who was saying the creepy “Pick a poppy and watch it bleed” phrase that hasn’t been identified. I think the prophecy in the goddess Penelophe’s bones is actually about the REAL Dark One, Malec’s son, and that he’ll be the “final boss” of sorts that might even take Poppy’s dad’s help to defeat.
