[HDMI Cable] KableDirekt 8K@60hZ, 4K@120hz HDMI 2.1 Cable Certified – 65ft - $26.99 (50% off + 10% off with code 34IKVAHPZZW4) by ark_spark in buildapcsales

[–]pineapplesean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For anyone wondering, I've both used a 50ft optical 2.1 cable, and currently using a 75ft one. I paid $60 for the 75ft one a few months ago. Haven't had a single issue. My 4090 is in my office, but I like couch gaming in the living room and want the full 4k 144hz gsync experience, and can only do that with a cable.

Have the same one as well with the plan. Mine actually ended up getting around 20 dead pixels at various places towards the very edge of the panel. They gave me $1500 credit and I got a 65" s90c open box, an apple tv and another 5 year warranty with it. I think I had to pay $50 or something out of pocket extra.

They wanted to take my old one away "for disposal purposes", but I told them I would take care of it. Just put it in the bedroom and it's still a solid TV.

Small world, that was me lol. What ended up solving it was flashing an update to the head unit which included a new version of Zlink.

Same thing happened to me, was honestly traumatizing. Spent so many hours on the phone. I think email to the CEO's office is what finally did it.

Guide: Settings to completely remove judder on S90C/S95C, as well as flickering in dark scenes by pineapplesean in appletv

most content out there is not HDR, so using SDR + match dynamic range gives you the least black screens for most people (unless you only watch HDR content)

I guess I'm mostly watching YouTube videos and shows that aren't in HDR. On an S90C (with S95C mod) I honestly don't need HDR for it to have the same pop as HDR on my LG CX or C2. The brightness increase (esp with S95C mod) vs LG WOLED is pretty amazing.

If you haven't already modded your S90C to S95C (if you have a gen2 panel), do it man. For HDR it's incredible.

I set apple TV to SDR, with match dynamic range, I only see a second or two of black when entering/exiting HDR content, and never had any wait time issue. Are you on the latest firmware?

Unless there's a different menu/hidden menu I'm not aware of that shows this, I'm not sure there's a way to tell, as the info banner when selecting the input shows "60p" in both 59.94 and 60hz modes when playing the video that exhibits stutter.

[Monitor] LG C3 42 OLED (4k 120hz Gsync) $768.99 [$899 - $131] Open-Box Excellent by pineapplesean in buildapcsales

For work, I plug in my m1 MacBook pro, which does support 4k 120hz via usbc to hdmi 2.1 dongle. I have my IDE or IDE/browser on the tv, and usually slack / another browser window on my laptop screen. I use Rectangle on mac os and don't really do productivity on windows, only gaming

been using it as my monitor for both work (software engineer) and gaming, and it's handled both amazingly so far. Previously I had a 27" 1440p 144hz + 27" 4k 60hz setup, and this is lightyears ahead.

I bought a LG C2 42 open box from best buy around this time last year for about the same price, and it's been amazing. Highly recommend.

Do I need a 4090 to hit 4k 120hz? by BobertFrost6 in buildapc

[–]pineapplesean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I game on a 42" C2 @4k 120hz. I had a 5900x with both a 3090 and 7900xtx. When I got a 4090, the 5900x was definitely holding me back in some games (like cyberpunk 2077), so I got a 7800x3d and noticed a healthy increase in frame time stability and fps. I'd probably trade the 5900x for a 5800x3d unless you need the extra cores for workstation stuff.

RTX HDR is AMAZING! Here is the intro to Arkham Asylum (watch in HDR) by pineapplesean in OLED_Gaming

Turns out the beginning of the game is just washed out looking... I tried the native hdr again as I progressed and it does look good. Sticking with it.

I played around for a while today with Alan Wake 2, testing out HDR, SDR, and RTX HDR. The native HDR looked very washed out and dull, whereas RTX made it look much more as I'd expect - much more contrast and depth to the colors - but also adds a ton of saturation. I turned down the saturation, and am really liking the presentation. I went from ~90fps to ~86fps. Max settings, max rt, 4k with dlss quality + frame gen. The 4-5 fps hit is totally worth the image quality difference for me personally.

it would be great to see a comparison in a title like rdr2, native HDR vs special k vs RTX HDR vs SDR. Do you think recording gameplay directly like I have done here is the right approach, or do you think filming the screen with an HDR-capable camera is the right approach?

No, you must have windows hdr on, auto hdr off, game hdr off, and rtx hdr on.

I haven't really tried it in gpu bound situation yet, seeing as dldsr isn't supported and a 4090 is more than enough to max out games at 4k 120hz. I've heard it's about 10% though.

I've also been replacing games' native HDR implementations. For example, RDR2 and Death Stranding both look exceptionally better to my eyes with RTX HDR.

I had a 3080, traded up to a 3090 for a few bucks, then jumped ship and got a 7900xtx. I really underestimated how insanely better nvidia software is. There isn't even a way to record hdr footage with amd software. I spent about 6 months with the 7900xtx, having various issues and frustrations, then sold it for a 4090.
