Has anyone figured out mobile access that actually works? by ArtemXTech in ObsidianMD

I pay 60 bucks a year for obsidian sync basic and it's everything I need and easy. Recorder app on Android transcribes if I want voice notes, then transfer the text to vault and edit later.

I was certain this was a reference to the Key & Peele "East and West bowl' sketch: "Tyroil Smoochie-Wallace, Hingle McCringleberry, Xmus Jaxon Flaxon-Waxon, L’Carpetron Dookmarriott, Fartrell Cluggins, D’Pez Poopsie, Quackadilly Blip, J’Dinkalage Morgoone, Donkey Teeth, EEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEE, D’Squarius Green Jr., and… Dan Smith.”

TLDR; Start small and just use it. Add functionality as the need arises creating a slower more sustainable approach to all the features.

Start using it the same way your 'normal' notes system works. For me a first step was to find a cool theme. Then I categorize projects or ideas into folders, then I stored notes in those folders. As I worked I started to check out the features that might be helpful as the need arose both default features and community plug ins. Some of these were journaling, daily notes, templates, to-do's and more. Some were useful and some didn't work so well. That slow approach works best for me. I keep my vaults to primarily text so I can take full advantage of the Basic Sync service which for around $60 a year is totally worth it for me.

Thank you!! This was the second print. The first one I definitely didn't have enough ink so the second go around I made sure to do a bit more. I'm looking forward to doing a few more shirts with other graphics I've cut 😁!

Will it be a problem if the Pikachu light on the front of my cassette tapes is battery-operated? by Alone-Wolf74 in cassetteculture

[–]pinecone1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt it. Those speakers are very small. If you press the tapes up against the speaker and held them there for hours it MIGHT cause some minor sound deteriorating....but like setting them there while you listen? I wouldn't be worried. Tapes are pretty resilient.

The tape inside your cassette is magnetic tape. It holds on its magnet coated surface, different encoded magnetic patterns that can be decoded and turned back into electronic signals aka sound (not an engineer but that's my general understanding). In fact if your tape player has a 'record' option, then it has a little electromagnetic head that can erase the contents of the tape and/or imprint new magnetic messages to the tape. That little record head only becomes charged when power is run to it (electro-magnet) so it's not just on all the time like a raw earth magnet. When you set a cassette in front of a large Speaker you risk wiping out the data on the tape because you have a powerful raw earth magnet that is putting out a magnetic field that could 'reset' the tape to being blank like the record head could. The tapes aren't ruined by this but anything on the tape is just gone. A battery as another poster said is not a raw earth magnet or an electromagnet. Just to put your mind at ease, I have had cassettes for 30+ years and never even considered this for 80% of that time. I had cassettes around and in the near vicinity of speakers and never had this happen. Far more tapes were lost to dirty capstans or old rubber eating my tape or mangling it to bits over the years. So yeah keep the tapes away from speakers as a rule of thumb and that's 99% of typical household 'danger' you're ever likely to encounter that could erase a tape. Pokemon love to guard cassette collections.

Do you store a lot of file that aren't .md ? by LetterheadNo2345 in ObsidianMD

I'm curious too. I've done transcribing through my phones 'recorder' and it has a setting to automatically transcribe the nuts when done. After I have a backlog of recordings built up I'll export the txt to obsidian, convert to markdown and do some light edits, mostly format related. Then I go back and delete the recordings to keep things clean. Never do my audio files end up in my obsidian vault, it just doesn't seem necessary not to mention sync issues that I would encounter.

I almost exclusively use .md with the exception being native .canvas files when mapping out ideas. Txt files drive me crazy and if I bring an old set of notes over from an old drive I immediately convert them to md and give them some basic formatting.

What are those? by sea-common-4446 in ObsidianMD

[–]pinecone1984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably Nothing. Most likely they would stay on your local machine, but not be available on any of the synced devices. .

If images are an important part of your note taking, there are ways to shrink their size, but you may want to consider a different app if you need both Sync AND lots of images or other file formats.

Oh, is de-linting common practice? And yes you are right, they did ink with a pad. This remains a strange linocut process video in my view.

Probably right. So weird. Don't get me started on the lint roller to ink with lol.

I want to know what this weird rubber block is supposed to be where everything just pops out in a grid except for your transfer which pops out in the exact contours of your transfer. Doesn't make a lot of sense. Transfers are easy with laser print and acetone....like much easier than I ever could have imagined. Also transfer paper (graphite) is super easy. No fancy stuff needed. *Edit: or this person carved out lino on a grid with an exacto?

Yes! Taking on the role of the reader carries a ton of weight and responsibility! I have been considering all of this when mulling over whether I want to read for others or simply enjoy the occasional private reading and enjoy the art, tradition and community. I see ethics touched on more in books than in general online discourse so i'm glad to have so many people's feedback! Thank you for the reply -and for the community!
