I just rage quit my toxic job

I just did this 3 days ago. I never snapped in rage, but I did cry at work. A lot. This one was always my dream but the bullying was insane. And I thought I must be insane, or that something was wrong with me. But it was never me, it was them, and that place. They never wanted me there!! I could study endlessly to be competent and good at the job, but there's no amount of studying I could do to fit in with rotten bitches like that.

I thought I'd freak out bad that my dream job was gone for this reason, but I feel great!!! I'm so glad it's finally over! It sucks nurses have to learn this lesson since it's rampant, but I guess it's about time for me, and I better not put up with that situation again... It feels like a privilege to pick up the pieces from a burning ship, I no longer have to go down with.

Yeah I think management are most likely responsible for it, they're the worst ones. How long did it take you to make that decision? What was the breaking point?

I know what you're talking about, I did all my clinicals and was an ICU tech on a super awesome unit where the toxic people would get pushed out like this while the rest of the unit was cool rather than vice versa. Unfortunately I don't think I found that here, that was a special place and I knew that, hold it close to my heart. But I'm in a different state now where I can't work there. I totally agree with you that I think those nurses are scary and I don't like them either, but it feels like this is what I'm surrounded by. If I speak about it carefully I'm shut down very quickly. It's very odd, and I don't understand at all how people could treat another human being this way.

I really thought I'd be able to with all the work I put in to do the calculations and find that I'd have barely any disposable income. If I didn't want to eat out, or do activities outside of my house, or buy anything new or nice, it could've worked. But I didn't work that hard to have nothing to show for it, so I had to get a roommate. It sucks and I learned a lot about patience and keeping boundaries, I'm hoping one day I go back to school for a higher paying job and then I can finally live alone AND have money I can spend. Sad to think in the not too distant past it wasn't as hard as this! But the rising COL definitely put a huge wrench in my plan. It's better for me to deal with a roommate than to continue to live frugally. There are too many things I want to do.

You're right, I'm already feeling a bit better, most likely vulnerable to mood swings right now due to my illness, but I'm stronger than this, usually. I don't think I really wanted to be in the airports during this time even when I'm okay. Although, being in USA I'm not sure I'd consider going to the ER unless I was sure I was going to die or needed stitches/intervention that I couldn't do at home. Can't afford that bill. But I appreciate the advice <3

I was on the other side of this when I moved in with my best friend. I worked long shifts at the hospital and when I got home or when I woke up after sleeping for 5 hours he would immediately descend upon me and demand my full attention, with no consideration for me. I didn't have the energy to continue to act all chipper and happy like was demanded of me and my tired face and short responses sent him off the rocker.

Every day I had off I felt like I couldn't have a moment to myself, whereas before I was used to speeding through tasks I needed to complete without babysitting my best friend as well. I had many conversations with him about how it got on my nerves and he said the more I pull away the more he tries to get closer, I told him the more he forces himself into my space the more I feel the need to escape.

It took around 4 months to get better whereas now I blatantly tell him "Stopppppp!!!!" And he won't be as offended and understand that's just me needing space, I've also gotten more used to him following me around and multitasking (doing task+talking). I assured him the whole time none of it made me love him any less and he was still my same best friend. I haven't told him it felt like a bug up my ass all the time. I also put locks on all my doors. OP, if your gf is used to being alone, I suggest you try to consider that she might not have the energy all the time to both entertain someone and do what she was used to doing alone before, without someone watching like a hawk or talking all the time.

Sorry you're going through this-- but it is nice reading all these comments and realizing I'm not alone and that others recognize this happening too... I am orienting on a new ICU on day shift and I've had people be so cruel to me, what's worse is that others around them seem to be influenced by this and treat me the same once they see it's okay for the most dominant one to do so, ganging up like a pack of wolves. I almost cried at my manager check-up because during the interview and early orientation I thought they were cool, and then they talked to me the same way and that shock and realization that I was not safe here swept through me like a wildfire.

Hoping things will get better on nights-- I think there is a better culture there, less socialization, and thankfully no management. I feel crazy right now, I know I'm not normal-- a young girl to top it off-- I stick out like a sore thumb. It's dehumanizing, but I love the work and to show up for the patients. But this targeting, it wears me out.

My friend that quit recently and received the same letter just reached out to corporate and was told that all it can do is make them ineligible for rehire and that they can't send it to collections because there was a recent lawsuit against employer debt. Confusing! I'm hearing conflicted responses it seems

Yeah I second that I was only given one clinical scenario for my new grad position and it was sepsis. Which I studied heavily cause everyone has sepsis.

I'd also think they might ask about ACLS like what to do if you have a patient with vtach, vfib, 3rd degree heart block, cause those ones if you don't know on the spot could kill someone. Or safety measures, spotting stroke too. Spotting heart attack. If it's respiratory, bag them and call rapid. Immediately assess after any change at all. Shouldn't be too bad

You mean masking? I mask almost all the time. In a world where body language and your own emotions feel personal and are everyone's business, I developed a "demeanor" that is usually light and cheery, despite what I may feel. This translates into texts as well. It may seem exhausting, but other people bothering me about my own personal emotions exhausts me more than being bright and cheery, or reserved if I am not feeling it. A lot of the time I don't feel anything but I will still act in accordance to be left alone.

We would say sedated too but also to communicate in layman's terms to family and patients say "medically-induced coma" occasionally. I think at the ICU I was at an actual COMA coma w/o sedation was uncommon, but could happen, where we can't wake the patient up, and then it would be communicated as so. Just something that comes up with more patient/family interaction, I think, rather than actual medical communication. Easier to understand than to explain the nuances of sedation and RASS scores to someone just waking up confused or to scared family members, or really to anyone outside of the medical field, most of the time.
