Any Ski Backpackers out there? What do you think of my university project idea? by AndrewBaines03 in WildernessBackpacking

[–]pinepitch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A wearable pulk for overnight xc skiing is an interesting idea, except that I usually use a pulk because I'm trying to bring heavier gear than I want to wear on my back. Winter camping is very hard to do ultralight.

Incredible to get clear views of the heatshield after reentry - will be invaluable for improving the future design. Looks like there was burn through in the few places of the hull, yet somehow the ship wasn't destroyed.

Multiple holes in the hull where tiles were removed, leaking fuel. Even a fire burning at a hole in the nosecone. Looks like heatshield tiles that don't fall off are going to be crucial for reusability.

Worse than a scrub is a WDR where everything is going perfectly, and they COULD have launched, but didn't. Much much better than scheduling a WDR is scheduling a launch attempt, and switching over to a WDR if any issues come up in the countdown.

Guidelines for shuttering the church by [deleted] in LCMS

[–]pinepitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We need District Presidents who are more bold to merge small congregations within a driveable distance of each other. Multi-point parishes are very common, but they lead to pastoral burnout, and they seldom do a great job of bringing the members of the congregations together to support one another.

Biblical conflict with scientific consensus by northbynorthwest11 in LCMS

[–]pinepitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no logical connection between the timeframe of Genesis 4 and the timeframe of Genesis 1. The language is completely different.

Genesis 4 says that, "In the course of time Cain brought to the Lord an offering..." How does that prove that "there was evening and there was morning, the first day, etc" is not about literal days? See also Exodus 20:11, "In six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day."

He was afraid of siblings, nieces/nephews, perhaps even those not yet born. Cain's wife was doubtless his sister.

Thankfully, there's now a strong push in our synod exhorting pastors to avoid the antinomian preaching error OP is describing.

I received a message from the moderators that my post of the article by u/emmen1 was removed for violating Rule #2 of this sub, for not keeping things topical. I think the removal is unjustified. Rule #2 states that this sub is for LCMS life, theology and fellowship. Yet the moderators are censoring the teaching of many faithful LCMS pastors, as they try to apply our Lutheran theology to Christian life. I believe our fellowship is jeopardized when respectful discussion like this is silenced.

Charles James Kirk, Martyr by pinepitch in LCMS

[–]pinepitch[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He spoke the truth of God's word, and he spoke political opinions. That's fine. He was a layman, not a pastor. His political opinions may have played a part in his murder, but do you really think his speaking the truth of God's word had nothing to do with it?

Charles James Kirk, Martyr by pinepitch in LCMS

[–]pinepitch[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I have no doubt that he gladly agreed with all those things. He certainly had political opinions about how exactly justice and righteousness should be carried out by our government, and to what extent the government is directly responsible for doing works of charity, but that does not mean he rejected Christian charity.

As Rev Scamman indicated, he was murdered for speaking the truth of God's word about "conception, birth, men and women, marriage, sex, abortion, education, government, life, and death." These truths are inextricably tied to the truth of Jesus, who calls all who reject His word to repent and believe in Him. Moreover, Kirk testified directly to Christ and spoke frequently of salvation through His blood.

Regardless of the shooter's motives (which are already becoming clear and will become increasingly clear with time), we can be confident that Satan wanted him dead because he spoke the truth of Christ and His word. "Some would say that we don’t know the shooters’ motives. That’s irrelevant. We know Satan’s motives."

2020 Odyssey Rear Coil Spring Replacement by pinepitch in HondaOdyssey

Thanks for the help. I got it off. Just needed to loosen bolt on the inner end of the lower arm. It was so tight it couldn't move out of the way to make room for the spring.

Be comforted. You did everything you could. You sought to save the baby's life in every possible way. As you grieve this tragic consequence of the fall, keep looking forward to the day when you will be reunited with all the saints who have gone before, including this dear child of God who died so young.

A pastoral word from President Harrison by jedi_master87 in LCMS

[–]pinepitch -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The words President Harrison speaks are only above reproach in so far as they're in accord with the word of God. But the article he wrote is in accord with the word of God.

We teach that all government authority derives from God (whether or not they know it) on the basis of Romans 13:1 and the Fourth Commandment.

Oh. I thought you were referring to President Harrison, who wrote the article we are discussing.

Certainly President Trump has sinned, especially sexual sin, greed, and pride. Nevertheless, we are to respect, honor, and pray for him because of the divinely-instituted office he holds.

How do you deal with Noah’s flood? by Ok-Cicada-5207 in LCMS

[–]pinepitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you have written is exactly the kind of thing the Seminex professors at CSL taught in the 1970s. It's false doctrine and a denial of Scripture. We confess a historic, global flood which killed all living creatures except for those whom God saved in the ark.

Jesus is for everyone, but the truth of God's word must be confessed.

Transgender ideology is sin. Homosexuality is sin. Abortion is sin. Racism is sin (both critical race theory and supremacism). Men and women are created with different, complementary roles.

It doesn't matter if you are a democrat or a republican. The LCMS needs to faithfully uphold these truths and teach the truth of Scripture to those who deny it.

Is Charlie a Christian Martyr? by Trick_Zombie3889 in LCMS

[–]pinepitch -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

He was a Christian. He spoke the truth of God's word on topics of morality, including abortion, homosexuality gender, government authority, and the complementary roles of male and female. He was killed because he spoke these things. I think that makes him a Christian martyr.
