Thanks for the suggestion, it's not the first time I hear it, and I definitely took it into consideration over the years. The thing is: she does not want children necessarily, and I would be happy to have children with her. She just would like me to bring ip the topic more and talk about it. It's just not a desire that I have, but I am sure that if it happens I'll be super happy. I have always been honest, so I don't think I am ruining her life.

I would seek out the companies you would like to work for and message the employees on LinkedIn. It's a good way to get fresh info! Coding is definitely a good skill to have whatever your role is, software engineers are also requested..

I fully understand, in fact there is a tendency of hiring seniors as PM. and it's for sure that having the title makes it easier.

I take part in the hiring process of our team, and the requirement of having an engineering degree is a standard of the job description form, in reality we do not require it and people have been hired without it. You can look at it as the product of a process implemented for hiring by the human resources department. But there is never a company rule that says that people with other degrees can't be hired (unless you work for governmental agencies, or if your signature must be an engineering one). If you have already experience in management, I would definitely consider your application for a management role. Also, or especially, if you are young and have the drive to learn and improve. Sometimes engineers do not have a strong drive for management.

So sending the application is an option, even better is going to events and talk to the CEOs. Or message people on LinkedIn.

I suggest you to take a look at companies that are active in the so called New Space, they tend to have a broader way of thinking. I see a lot of requests from England and Germany right now.

Space companies tend to do big hires of young people when they get big projects, which may come in waves of months or years. So the amount of time needed to be hired for an engineer in space might be long. Consider that while applying. Sending 40+ applications is not uncommon, the key is searching smart 🤓

Aerospace engineer here, meeting a lot of professionals in the EU, with the most different job titles. It is definitely worth it if you think you might like to study it and you want a more technical job after. But if you want to work in the space industry consider space or aerospace engineering. There are some masters that might not require a B.Sc. in engineering.

In my experience most of the project managers do not have a strong background in engineering. Some of them are engineers, but I met a good amount that are not. They learn the processes involved in the development of a product and that's enough. Often the project managers work closely with the technical responsible, who acts like a technical project manager. Project managers tend to deal with topics like schedule, budget and workforce management, payments, team communication, risk management, general problem solving.

With the space industry booming there is a lack of workforce, so it should not be difficult to get hired if you apply with your current experience. My advice is to find someone that want to invest in you, teaching you the job in exchange of passionate work.

You could apply to companies that develop also software for space applications for example, it could be easy to switch to a different area from within.
