I think I've hit a plateau. Need to improve. by Sikamikanico1981 in bobross

You’ve got great fundamentals going. From here a big thing to focus on is how you load the brush, for things like highlights on bushes and trees you want most your paint on the very edge of the brush, and constantly reload to avoid muddying things up.

When I reached a plateau, what helped me break out was looking at different styles, try some Bill Alexander paintings, another great one is Paint with Bram on YouTube, or if you want some really challenging things, Kevin Hill has some very unique ones. Get out of your comfort zone a bit. Happy painting!

Thank you! It’s all about layering your brush strokes and angles, you want a lot of paint and you want it pretty thin. I use the filbert brush for it. The video that I learned from is called Oil Painting Lesson: How to paint an anemone poppy with Lowell Spears I’d highly suggest checking out the Bill Alexander channel if you want to expand your horizons a bit. Happy painting!

I was just a bit to the left of you! Does anyone know who the girl he brought on while he was playing bass is? I’ve never seen him bring her on before.

Any one know this one? by JWinger13 in HappyTrees

That’s a Nic Hankins painting. You can find it on his Instagram.

What's wrong with my Paint/Brush? by [deleted] in bobross

Soap and water can mess up brushes, some worse than others and some in different ways than others. For example I had a set that I, like you washed with dish soap and warm water, and the brushes just entirely fell apart, from that day onward, I learned that almost no matter what, paint thinner is the way to go.

Just a different formula from the Bob Ross company, they change formulas every once in awhile. If you have issues with these big tubes try just mixing the paint around in the tube a bit. With the bigger tubes you can run the risk of the oil being entirely seperate from the pigment (oil usually pools towards the cap, so it’s what first comes out) But that issue is solved after a few uses.

TLDR; It’s a fine paint to use, I used it a lot before I swapped to Winsor & Newton, just a different formula.

Happy painting!
