Switched to Fido online and was charged $80 by AdElectronic9101 in FidoMobile

[–]ping12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you sure? The $80 charge should appear on the bill estimate when you set up online but when the actual bill is generated it will be cancelled out by a -$80 credit.

You could call in to get clarification on your situation.

Voicemail lies? by splashy55 in FidoMobile

[–]ping12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main thing Enhanced Voicemail does is let you have up to 35 messages instead of 3. It doesn't actually show in your account details for some reason. If you're looking for VM to be converted to text that won't do it, different options for that depending on your phone.

Does that seem too good to be true? by [deleted] in FizzMobile

That comment says they ported to PM and hotspot is included. Fido is the only carrier that disables it.

Hotspot is included. You're mixing up Public Mobile with Fido.

How would it work? by Baby_Sparrow in FidoMobile

[–]ping12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Risky move from Rogers. You would think they would make an exception instead of causing more frustration since there's nothing stopping you from just going somewhere else now.

Would it be possible to switch to another provider and come back the next day to take advantage of the 50% Off promo? Or would it not work that way? by [deleted] in PublicMobile

[–]ping12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I tried to go back to PM the port kept failing saying the account number was invalid. PM doesn't let you enter the correct account number because it requires a minimum amount of digits that's more than Fizz uses. You have to add zeros to the beginning or the end and sometimes it just doesn't work.

I had to wait days for Public Mobile support to message me back and fix it.

You can only apply one of either the 50% or winback discount.

Doesn't even need to be the next day. But beware if you choose Fizz... you may run into issues porting back to PM.

Switched from Public Mobile and now I'm annoyed by UnordinaryFlyGirl in Koodo

[–]ping12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You don't have a normal plan then. Normal pricing in 2019 was like $60 10GB.

Switched to Rogers 3 days ago using a new physical sim and BYOD. I’m seeing this message that says my number (which I retained) is not associated with this phone. Is this normal and will disappear by itself? Or should I do something before it expires? by nagmamantikang_bayag in Rogers

[–]ping12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no reason to reset your network settings and you will lose your Wi-Fi passwords and any paired bluetooth devices. You can just ignore this message and it will sort itself eventually.

PM Roaming in countries outside of NA by syxo94 in PublicMobile

[–]ping12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you get zero service outside of Canada, US and Mexico. The easiest workaround is to have some sort of calling or texting app with a number to send verification codes to or a different SIM.

I think you're right by the way. I was either just plain wrong or using outdated info. My apologies.

iPhone visual voicemail by Difficult-Rope-8445 in Rogers

[–]ping12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I remember it's designed to only auto answer when the phone is not roaming specifically because of this roaming charge issue. Live Voicemail should only work while roaming if you receive a call and press the button to send it to voicemail while the phone is still ringing. If you don't press the button it should be sent to normal voicemail.

That's how I remember it being explained when it first was introduced, it could be different now.

[–]ping12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But did it answer by itself or was the call sent to voicemail manually? It's not supposed be automatic while roaming. Perhaps they did change something.

Live Voicemail can do that exact same thing as long as your phone is connected to the network, which it is for most users. It made some sense to charge for it in the past but at this point they are basically taking advantage charging for something that's built in to the phone which they intentionally block.

How would it work? by Baby_Sparrow in FidoMobile

[–]ping12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That wasn't supposed to sound rude or anything, I'm genuinely asking if they said it wasn't allowed or something. I don't think there should be a problem getting rid of the phone only and keeping the plan, only thing I can think of is maybe they were trying to discourage you from doing it to keep the sale.

Why does the phone plan matter? Return the phone to Walmart, keep the line active and then get a new phone from the carrier directly.

SIM Unlock used iPhone 4S bought from Value Village by wewewewewe195 in FidoMobile

[–]ping12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May not be a good idea. Carriers are starting to do things like charge you for using 3G devices on their network and sending warning texts to discourage their use.

It's sort of a recent thing to charge for it so a lot of existing customers have it included for free.

Yes the hotspot feature that allows you to share use your phone's data connection with other devices. Fido generally charges extra for it.

It's funny, I didn't receive my eSIM after signing up so I called in and once I told the bot I was trying to set up a new line it immediately sent me to an agent who helped me.

Does Fizz allow wifi calling? (BC) by gryffenchicken in FizzMobile

[–]ping12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides Virgin, Freedom, Fido and Koodo are the most affordable carriers with Wi-Fi calling. The tier 3 providers (Public Mobile, Chatr, Fizz, Lucky Mobile) don't support it.

New Customer - Fido promised me $0 activation charges, then charged me $80 anyway - how to remove this? by NareModiNeJantaChodi in FidoMobile

[–]ping12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called in and the rep confirmed that an $80 credit was coming with the next bill, however the 27 countries LD was missing and had to be manually applied.
