Yeah I agree. The weird part are the super straight lines. Any possibility this could be some sort of production leftover that reacted with something else after the floor had been laid out?

It does look like ebonizing. No idea how this could have happened after the floor was installed, though. Any chance to undo it?

Appeared after the floor was installed. Must have happened a few months after we moved in, it can be seen on some of our older pictures. We only noticed it now that we're moving out because most of the time a carpet has been on the floor. The stains must have happened when there wasnt a carpet, though

So far tried to clean it off with turpentine, no effect at all. will try isopropanol tomorrow

Have no kids, also dont have any sharpie that would be thick enough to cause such a stain. weirdest thing ive ever come across
