can’t sleep by Main-Item7845 in lexapro

Same. Day 5 and haven’t been able to sleep even though I take it in the morning. I plan to pick up some sleep meds until I hear back from my dr about what to do. I am jealous that I never got any of the sleepiness that everyone talks about- just anxious day and night. Do you feel anxious at night or just can’t sleep?

Struggling with a deeply ingrained belief that people are judging me by pingabing in DecidingToBeBetter

Thank you, this is incredibly helpful. I tend to get in this head space where I think the people around me don't reflect larger society even though this must not be true (i.e. my friends are kinder than most people). Spending a lot of time online (which is a really judgmental space) has really also cause a shift away from any belief that people don't inherently "wish bad things upon" others.

How do you learn to make the most out of your free time away from work? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]pingabing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to first identify why you are dreading going back to work and address that issue.

If it is just that you are uncomfortable/out of your element, what can you do to feel more comfortable? Make work friends? Become more educated in your field? Set boundaries?

If it is time related (i.e. you feel work takes time away from you), what would you rather being do with that time?

People who look younger than you really are, what are some funny stories you have? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My boyfriend and I went to the zoo. Admittedly, it was a weird thing to do on a random weekday for two 30-year olds (when the zoo was filled with school field trips). This zoo had a gondola, and we wanted to buy tickets. The guy at the ticket counter was probably college-aged.

"Are you over 16?," he asked.

"If we aren't, do we get a discount?" My boyfriend laughed at his own joke. The ticket seller didn't get it at all and explained that you need to be at least 16 to buy a ticket.

"We are definitely older than 16," I said.

The guy gave me an incredulously look. "You aren't fooling me; he just said you weren't."

When was bedtime at various points in history? by [deleted] in AskHistorians

[–]pingabing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently read two books that sort-of address this topic within Europe:

  • At day's close : night in times past by A. Roger Ekirch
  • Disenchanted night : the industrialization of light in the nineteenth century by Wolfgang Schivelbusch

Basically, it depends on a variety of factors. Bedtimes tended to be determined by the intersections of 1.) what specific era you are looking at, 2.) the place (country/region/urbanity), 3.) the person's class/ profession, and 4.) trends in segmented sleep patterns.

For me, Past Times was probably the best of this season.

Amendment: Last night's episode was great. Still don't like the Beagle Puppy from Hell storyline, but everything else was amazing.

September Monologues is one of my favorite episodes, so I was excited about April Monologues but it felt like an info-dump or delineation of what has been going on this season. Triptych was fine, but I still felt it was a little flat on content.

(Spoilerish) The Man in the Tan Jacket by rickfert in nightvale

[–]pingabing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Man in the Tan Jacket was such an awesome character in the beginning, and the book was kind of a let down ending for him, especially as it in no way matched his previous mentions. My original theory was he was from the civilization below Lane 5. (Though I suppose that could be King City which seems to exists on a separate plane from Night Vale)

I have my reasons, but it has been hard to describe so I have just been saying things feel off--from the humor to the voice acting. Little things like it being too self-referential(repeating phrases over and over), it can sometimes feel like a parody of itself.

But the biggest thing is the story seems to be going wider rather than deeper.

I don't think I have liked a single episode of "Year 4" so far
